1968 Lotus Europa (pancake)

An early S1 I bought it from a fellow I worked with at Consumers Gas because it just looked like a race car I could drive on the street. Canadian winters were not ideal for a car like this. Inferior heater, low ground clearance and just plain unreliable starting in cold weather. I think that car remained with me for 3 months then off to the old British United on Davenport Road as a trade against a new MG Midget. I had few photos of it so this is the closest I could find. My car only had the steel wheels on it but was otherwise the same as this one.
My most vivid memory of this was having my first kidney stone attack while driving it. I had no idea what was happening so I drove to the emergency clinic of East General Hospital but was unable to get out of the car. I sat there pushing the horn for assistance until someone came out. I am sure this was a comical sight as I was pulled sideways from this car then the employee who assisted proceeded to tell me someone had to move the car. No one wanted to get in it let alone park it!
In hindsight a wise move to get rid of it although I don't think I have ever had a stock configeration car that would even come close to the handling characteristics of these cars.
