1968 Pontiac Firebird 400 (68Firebird)
Last updated Jan 6, 2010
My wife let me buy a 40 year old car for my 40th birthday!
Originally a standard firebird. Someone upgraded the hood to the 400 hood and put a 400 in it but not numbers matching. It started running really hot at the end of the summer so I took it to my mechanic and he tested the cylinders and they were loosing quite a bit of compression (70% on most of them). So I traded engines with a guy for a 455 and it is being rebuilt right now. The crank was toast and the cylinder walls were scratched so I am having it bored 60 over (already 34 over) and putting in a stroker kit. So it wll be a 474 when I get it back. Also put in headers which means I had to change from a column shift to a floor shift (linkage for column shift is in the way of the headers). And while I was at it I installed an aluminum radiator. Also changed the stock Rally II wheels out for Torque Thrusts for a little more bling. I cant wait to get it back.
Power assist breaks and power steering.
Orriginaly the car was Autumn Gold, a green interior, white top, and a 326 engine. So nothing is left factory but the frame.
