1968 Pontiac Firebird (68 Vert)
Last updated Nov 5, 2012
After restoring 2 cars basically to showroom condition, I was looking for something that I could modify. I've always wanted a convertible, so why not make it a 1st gen Firebird.
Plus, my Formula doesn't like driving at freeway speeds. The one and only time she went on the Bandit Run, she threw hissy fits the whole trip. Numerous Fits. This car is to be set up more as a cruiser, but with some low end punch and the look of a pro-touring car.
A friend in California spotted the ad for this car, went and test drove it and brokered the deal for me. Now the car is sitting at his house undergoing repairs and improvements. Stripped down to the frame, powder coating the sub-frame, repairing rust, repainting the undercarraige, and engine bay. Then beef up the suspension and put it back together.
After that, it will be shipped to Nebraska where another friend will tackle the remaining body work and paint.
Sometime in there I well get my chance at modding the interior. Just have to decide what I want to do.
Engine is a 1969 Pontiac 400 YD block. Originally in B-Body cars with 2 bbl & automatics. It also has # 46 heads. Total stock hp is 290.
Tranny is a TH350 - soon to be replaced with..........
3.08 Posi rear end
The car was built in the 2nd week of April in Lordstown Ohio and originally came with a v-8. It was painted Verdoro Green and had a Black top. It also came with Black standard interior.
This was a manual top car.
Suspension - solid aluminum body bushings, heavy duty variable-rate coil springs, Hotchkis Chassis Max subframe connectors and crossbrace, Belltech Anti-Sway Bars - 1 1/4" front 7/8" rear. So far, lol
Brakes - SSBC single piston disc brakes with turbo slotted rotors
