About

My first car; got it when I was 15. I’m the second owner. It has less than 100,000 miles. Based on the 67 Tornado chassis that was known for its handling, and powered by an engine that produces more torque, faster than the 426 Hemi, I street raced and drag raced it all through high school and college-rarely getting disappointed. The 1986 SCCA autocross officials called it, “the biggest and loudest car to ever compete in one of their sanctioned events.” In that 1986 autocross, I finished 12th overall out of 26 sports cars and hot rods. I beat all of the IROCs , Trans Ams, most of the Mustangs, and my fastest run beat 3 of the 4 runs from the slowest 84 Corvette. Not bad for a 4,680 lb. car with a stock engine using points ignition, stock suspension, back shocks that did not work, 15 X 6” wheels, and 215/65 R15 white wall tires. My only modification was an exhaust system that had been cut off at the header pipes for repairs. The open exhaust of the 400 HP, 500 CID engine that makes 550 lbs of torque@ 3400 RPMs shook the windows in all of the dormitories of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville that Saturday morning and was talked about for many months. Blew the engine in an interstate race with a Porsche 911. We were accelerating side by side at 95 MPH when one of the pistons detonated due to a lean fuel mix. The car was parked. Two mechanics ripped me off on repair jobs. Got married; got new priorities. Car still sits- now needing full restoration and has some damage from an Oak Tree limb that fell on the hood and windshield. The best car I have ever owned.
