1975 Datsun 280Z (My Chicago Z)
Last updated Dec 3, 2006
I first saw this car for sale in Constantine in 1998. The guy wanted WAY too much ($3000). A few years later, needing an engine, I stopped by to ask what had happened to it. The smelly old guy living there, dwelt in piles of his own garbage and filth. But, he was a real friendly old coot. He told me the car belonged to his daughter's ex-boyfriend and if I would wait a minute, he could get me a phone number. After calling around for 15 minutes, he produced an adress out near Union, MI.
I drove out there the next week, and there, in the mud, next to a barn, sat the same car from 3 years ago. It's owner said he would sell me an extra engine with 5,000 miles on it for $800, but I would have to take the car too. The car was kind of a faded gray with interior pieces missing. He also included boxes and boxes of misc. Datsun Z parts. I paid and towed the stuff home on a borrowed trailer.
I painted it black, added 15" 300Z wheels with tires, custom seats, steering wheel, Sony CD unit and eventualy used the car to move to Chicago where I sold it for $3000. This is the most I have ever sold a Z for!
ps. the spare engine is now in my '71 "Cal Z" drag car!
2.8 liter F.I. SOHC inline six cyl., 4-speed
15" 300Z wheels with 60-series tires, custom seats, steering wheel, Sony CD unit and new (black) paint.
