1978 Datsun 510 (Ole Reliable)

I actually owned two of these cars, both of the ones pictured. I acquired the wagon on the cheap from a friend in 1985 and put about 150,000 miles on it (on top of the 50,000 my friend had put on it) before I gave it away 11 years later. We never had to do any major repairs to it other than replace the clutch. There was a period of time where I was out of work for a year or so, picking up occasional temporary work here and there, and money was so tight I couldn't even afford a few quarts of oil to change the oil; in spite of going over a year without an oil change, the car still ran great and didn't use any oil when I passed it on to a friend.
The other Datsun, a 2-door coupe, I bought from another friend 3 years after I got the wagon at his insistence for $100. We didn't need another car, but at the price I couldn't turn it down. The coupe came from Utah, so it had some rust in the front fenders, which I repaired. I drove it for a couple years and then sold it, while still keeping the wagon.
Each had the inline-four engine with a four-speed.
The wagon came with honeycomb style aluminum mag wheels and a roof rack.
I had some 13-inch wheel covers that I had picked up somewhere several years prior and they fit the coupe's steel wheels.
