1981 De Lorean DMC-12 (Part Time Machine)
Last updated Apr 5, 2012
I sat in a new one of these in 1982 at a Pontiac dealership while my folks were in the sales office negotiating a Firebird. I thought it was the coolest car I'd ever seen! Then of course there were the Back to the Future movies that re-popularized it and made it even cooler as a time machine!
Then while waiting in line at a parade with my starcar group, my Bandit Trans Am was parked next to my friend Paul Nigh's BTTF2 De Lorean Time Machine. I had struck up a conversation with his co-pilot Reba, and sat in the drivers seat. At that moment, all those feelings I had for the De Lorean came rushing back and I simply had to have one! So I sold my six month old 2010 Prius and bought one.
All original. Car only had 31,000 miles on it and was in very good condition.
V6 rear mounted engine. PRV.
5 speed manual transmission.
Manual rack in pinion steering
power windows and locks
Alpine stereo system with big speaker box behind seats.
Hidden exterior speakers for shows
Assortment of custom lighting
Removable rear vents and 1.21 jigawatt power assembly with Mr. Fusion home energy reactor.
This car is my daily driver which is why I made all the BTTF stuff removable - hence the name Part-Time Machine.
