I purchased a decommissioned Fire Rescue Truck from Illinois. The plan is to convert it to a hauler for my Mahindra 5520 4WD Tractor. The plan includes installing a Dually pickup box over the rear axle, then splicing in the front of two other boxes to fill the gap between the box and back of the cab. The front box will hold the batteries, fuel tank, hydraulic tank, gas generator and a small pancake air compressor. The second box will hold a couple fuel tanks that will use air pressure to transfer fuel to my tractors. A couple custom diamond tread running boards will make it look like a custom Pickup TRUCK. It will pull my new Econoline 7 Ton Hydraulic tilt bed trailer w/my Mahindra 5520 4WD Loader/backhoe.

Update: 11-13-09 - I found my first box for this project. I have ordered a set of aftermarket dually fenders for this box. It will require a custom lift of just under 7 inches to align body lines with the cab. This has changed some of my plans on location of some of my planned modifications, primarily fuel tanks and hidden tool boxes, to make use of this added space. My C70 chassis has only 18,859 original miles (apparently hard miles - engine failed). I am in the process of major overhaul of a pre-smog 427 truck engine for this project.

Mods

I intend to build a custom hydraulic wrecker in the dually bed that can fold out of site and out of mind until needed. As many older vehicles in my fleet it seems one always needs a lift or rescue!
