About
This Monte Carlo was family-owned from 1987 until 2000, when it was traded in on a Torch Red 2000 Monte Carlo SS. It was repurchased at the end of 2003 but in sorry condition. The paint, which was redone in 1999, was scratched and even missing in a few areas. The entire left-rear quarter panel was crushed in due to an inept tow truck operator. The t-tops leaked very badly, causing a major (albeit common) rust problem for the a-pillar and passenger floor. The dashboard was badly cracked, the carpet and floor mats were stained, and the upholstry was riddled with cigarette burns.
A full restoration which included rust repair, new weatherstripping, the removal of everything forward of the firewall, and the refurbishment of the interior soon followed. The car currently has approximately 168,XXX miles and the restoration took place at 165,558 miles.
Specs
305HO L69 engine mated to a TH2004R automatic transmission with overdrive and 3.73 rear gears. The modified V8 makes approximately 300 horsepower.
Factory Options
T-tops, cruise control, power windows, center console, bucket seats, driver's side remote mirror, AC, AM/FM radio with cassette
Mods
Exterior modifications include the deletion of the stock stripe package, wheels painted a metallic dark grey, a shaved radio antenna (antenna moved to the windshield), and a Goodmark steel 2" cowl induction hood.
The engine was bored .30 over and the computer controls and emissions systems were totally removed. Added parts include a new HEI ignition system, an Edelbrock AirGap intake, and stock heads port matched to the intake. The exhaust system includes Dynomax ceramic-coated headers, 2.5" aluminum exhaust, Flowmaster mufflers, and factory-replacement tail pipes.
The suspension is stock other than Bilstein 2" drop spindles up front and Bilstein 1.5" rear drop springs. The shocks were also replaced while the car was apart.
The interior features a new-old dashboard, PUI replacement seat covers, the black trim was refurbished, the carpet was replaced, the headliner was replaced, and the high-end Delco cassette player with equalizer commonly found in the Buick GNX replaced the factory AM-FM/Cassette player. An auxiliary amplifier was added with provisions for a direct-input for MP3 players found in the centre console.
