Oh, if it ever does finally die, I'm pretty sure it'll get a good send-off. smile image

I love what you wrote about this abused little guy! I hope when you finally manage to kill it that you give it a decent burial. tombstone image

1989 Mitsubishi Montero (The Monstero)

Photo of a 1989 Mitsubishi Montero (The Monstero)

I bought this car for $0.05. That's right, a nickel. My coworker had 45 cents and he wanted a soda, so I tossed him a nickel and he signed the title over.

The motor knocks louder than most diesels, something in the front suspension is WAY loose, the driverside motor mount and both front shocks are completely missing, the neutral safety switch is toast, and the tires were so dry-rotted that the tread actually fell off of one, yet I've put it through over two years of abuse as a farm/play vehicle and it's still kickin. It's skidded logs, done countless J-turns, gone through the top of a downed tree at about 30 MPH, been wedged between trees that were just a little too close together....I can't believe it's still running.

The rod-knockin' 3.0L V6 is probably pushing out about 40, maybe 50 horsepower. Whatever the number, it's enough to get the thing airborne.

Factory Options

A suspension seat for the driver and a nifty little inclinometer on the dash.

When the tread fell off one of the rear tires, I threw a pair of 35" bias-ply Ground Hawgs on the rear. Yeah, that is a little hard on the transfer case when it's in 4WD, but hey, that's what I had laying around.
