About
I purchased this car in October of 2000 with 80,000 miles on the body and transmission and 40,000 on the engine. The transmission has now been rebuilt in November 2006 with 120,000 miles on it.
Soon after I purchased the car I found out that it had been customized by a dealer with a spoiler and SS badging.
In the winter of 2004/2005 I decided that I no longer liked the factory column shifter so I removed it and installed a factory floor shift, which turned out to be a huge pain in the butt.
2007 rolled around and I purchased a 1999 Z/28 M6 so the Monte became the winter car.
February 2009 saw many issues with the Monte. A fuel pressure regulator, water pump, and then the infamous lower intake manifold gaskets. I figured since I was that far down that I would just replace the head gaskets since the car now has 130,000 miles on it.
In January 2009 the demoding of the car began and it will continue come summer.
2010 did not get off to a good start. A cracked head allowed for coolant to leak into the oil. I took the vehicle in to have to looked at and evaluated. $1500 was the baseline for repair on the car and it was worth only $1500 in good condition with 135,000 miles on it. I decided that I wouldn't have a $3000 car at the end of the day so the sad and painful decision was made to donate it to Rawhide and to get a new car. Hopefully the car will be repaired and someone else will love it like I did. I got nearly 10 good years out of the car, but it was time for it to go.
