1997 Pontiac Formula WS6 (rairbrd)

Last updated Jan 16, 2008

Photo of a 1997 Pontiac Formula WS6 (rairbrd)

After supporting my ex-wife for 17 years and some financial downers along the way I finally was in the position to buy, so 3 years ago I did. I was calling on a customer(in middle of nowhere) and the car caught my eye with the dual exhaust, well as I got closer I saw the WS6 badge- a examination had to taken. After we did business I inquired about the Green Firebird outside, told me it was his personal car & getting ready to sell it. He asked me if I wanted to take a look? Yeah says I. It appeared to be pretty clean, but I thought I'd spend some time on web on looking further. A month or so went by and I called to see if he still had the car & if for sale, yes it was. A date was set to look & drive that Saturday, when I got to his house I instantly new it was the car for me, providing it performed as good as it looked.
Well, I took it for one of those 11/2 hr test drives and feel in love with the six speed, and new if I didn't but this one what ever I bought would have to have a 6 speed gear box! Because up 'til then I really wanted a Firehawk with an automatic(so I thought), but either too much$ or beat 2 death. Either way, Formulas have always had a special place in my heart since I was 12 when an older friend had a '72 400. I returned back to the owner's house and a deal was struck for way less than what he originally quoted. I drove my new 'Bird home two days later, and feel it was a fantsatic purchase. I've gone to the famous Woodward Cruise in Detroit 3 years straight, several BIG car shows, surfed the web mant times and still have not seen one like it. Seems I found the unique car I had been looking for, or did it find me
As it turns out my '97 is 1 of 473 WS6 Formulas built that year.
Since I've owned it I had PCM reflashed, 160* stat, TB Bypass, K&N filter, Mobil 1 oil, New tires.
Future mods include: SFCs, STB, LCAs, T-Arm&relocator, PHB,New Rear-end, engine mods or replace with LS2, exhaust.
If it makes it's way out of storage this year a new clutch, brakes, tune-up, otherwise next year.
