1978 Pontiac Trans Am (Tracy)

Trophies: 5 Give a trophy Last updated Feb 12, 2007

About

This is my first Trans Am. I've spent 16 years trying to get one and I finally wound up with this one. I was shooting for a 77 SE and I'm close to finalizing a deal on one but I had a goal, I would have a T/A before I hit 22 or I wouldn't bother trying anymore. So, 3 moths after I hit 20 I purchased this 1978 Mayan Red T/A. This car is not going to be a a major show contender because it is a major conglomeration of parts, including a 1974 455 Super Duty engine and 4-speed. Originally she had a deluxe (custom) white vinyl interior, W72 400 and automatic, AC, electric rear defrost, power windows, and power locks. By the time I got to her, she had been through 4 owners (3 of which I'm trying to find) and many modifications. In addition to the motor and tranny swap, the interior had been gutted except for the dash and the headliner. I thought it was odd that the ceiling was white, along with the T-tps and that the rest of the interior was black.... the fron seats were from a 1984 Trans Am and the rest of the interior was from a 1977 T/A. She also had some surface rust, the hood being the worst. However, underneath and mechanically she was in great condition. After a tuneup for 455 and some new paint, I took her to the 2006 T/A Nationals, while there, my fuel pump died and I not only missed judging but I also missed the first day of school! To top it all off, on Labor Day evening one of the rod bolts broke in have, one piece going up into the cumbustion chamber. Needless to say I was very unhappy. The motor was salvageable and has been rebuilt so I'm ready for more adventures! Check out my websites for photos of the restoration and some of my other hobbies.
