Head to Head

About “Dad's Corvette”

First, I have to say THIS IS NOT A PICTURE OF THE ACTUAL CAR! A friend had this picture posted in a car show album, but it looks nearly identical to the way Dad's car did (except that Dad's car had a hood scoop and a white stripe) before it was destroyed in a house fire when I was about 7 years old.

This is the car that started my interest in cars in the first place. I'd lie on my back under the car with him and try to help with whatever he was doing with it. He had me hand tools to him (usually, the WRONG tools!), but ha wouldn't let me actually do any of the mechanical work. I did help him keep it clean, washing the sides and dusting the interior.

About “Bat Rod”

I bought this LT-1 from a "friend" (no longer) by email who said it was "ready to go." it was not. It had no paint, boxes of parts, engine problems and the interior was in need of much TLC. After much work, it is now the Bat Rod, with a hot, solid-lifter basically-stock engine, factory A/C and much more. It sits low and is bad.

Specs for “Dad's Corvette”

To the best of my memory, it had the usual Corvette stuff:
V-8, 4-speed stick, AM/FM radio, etc. As far as 0-60 and 1/4 mile times go, I didn't care! All I know is it was the most thrilling ride a young girl could have ever asked for. After this Vette, no car with a solid roof would do for me!

Specs for “Bat Rod”

Stock 350 solid lifter

Factory Options for “Dad's Corvette”

It had the aluminum wheels and side pipes, and a hood scoop with a wide white stripe running through it.

Mods for “Dad's Corvette”

Dad liked to keep his cars mainly stock, so I assume there weren't many modifications if any at all.

Headers. Tremac 5-sp, sidepipes, off-set trailing arms, paint
