About “Street Sleeper”

My wife, Pat, has always wanted a VW Bug. I said ok, we will build a Bug. You can pick the color and the interior and I'll take care of the engine. She thought it was going to be a regular VW pancake engine. (she always liked the sound they made) It wasn't too long into the build she noticed there was different. She loves hot rods and after teasing me about the engine choice I made, picked the color and the interior. She thought she would get back at me with the color but I like it. It is supposed to be 57 Chevy turquoise. The striping is grey and cream, which she also picked.

Mods for “Street Sleeper”

The body is steel and rust free. The fenders are fiberglass, 2" wider front, 3"wider rear. Chassis is 2"x 3" square tubing. Front end is Mustang II with rack and penion steering. Rear is a narrowed Plymouth Roadrunner with 3:23 gears. Trans is a 350. Dash is digital. Shifter is Lokar. Front brakes are Wilwood disc, drum rear. Exhaust is custom with block hugger headers. When designing the exhaust, the header pipe hit the trans mount and I don't like anything hanging down below the chassis so I cut a section out of the trans mount and welded in 4"x 4" square stock on both sides and the exhaust pipe runs thru them. (As soon as I figure out how to put pictures out you will be able to see what I did). Gas tank is 16 gal baffeled aluminum. I moved the stock flapper door and filler cap from the original spot to just in back of the side, back window on the driver side. I even have a little trunk. The battery is in the "trunk" also.
