About “Slimer”
I bought my Barracuda April 9, 1991 in Rialto, California as a total basketcase, complete with boxes and extra parts in the trunk, from Lloyd Hilton* for $250. I'm the sixth owner. I love this car like a second child and am very proud of what I have accomplished so far. It's my first restoration.
I'm still working on the interior but now have nearly everything to finish it up. My target date is in early June so I can join the Union City-to-Memphis leg of the 2007 Hot Rod Power Tour and debut the car in a proper fashion.
Since it wasn't original when I bought it (the factory 318 was long gone by then), I'm building this street car the way I want it to be: Fast, safe, and very fun to drive.
Here's just a few of the resto-mods to date:
340 V8
727 (reverse manual valve body)
8 3/4" posi with 3.23 gears
Aerospace Components front disc brakes (rears too someday)
Holley 750 carb
Strip Dominator intake
MSD 6AL ignition
Hooker headers
Speedway aluminum crossflow radiator / overflow
Driveshaft loop
Front/rear sway bars
PST polygraphite suspension components
Super Stock leaf springs
Yukon axles
American Racing Torque Thrust IIs
(bbp 15x8 rears / 15x4 fronts)
Summit Racing bucket seats
Simpson 5-point camlock racing harnesses
LeCarra steering wheel ...
This isn't an exhaustive list of everything, but you get the idea.
It's a labor of love and a work in progress. Please feel free to post your comments -- I'd love to hear them!
* RIP Lloyd, my dear friend ... wish you could have seen what that ol' beige POS in your driveway finally turned into.
