About “Formula”

The car was purchased in Texas in 1977 by my father to have a car for the kids to drive. The car was quickly nicknamed “The Kids Toy”. A few modifications were done, the Rally II wheels were exchanged for turbine mags, and side pipes were added. A custom paint job with murals on the hood scoops and pearl white was airbrushed down the sides. (Hey, it was the 70’s.) It even won a few car shows.

I purchased the car from him a couple of years later. It went from Texas to California then sat in storage for 10 years. It was moved to Nebraska and sat for another 7 years waiting to build up the Firebird Restoration Fund.

Frame off restoration took 5 years but came out looking good. For 2009 it’s leading a sheltered life. The plan is to limit its road time for a year. It was trailered to 15 shows, 6 were national shows and the rest were local area shows. Now it can be driven a little more.

About “Roxann”

I have been into these old Pontiacs since the age of 13. I remember seeing my first Trans Am on a car lot in east Texas. The year was 1975! But, it was the 1973 model that became my favorite. I had owned several Firebirds growing up, but still was never quite able to land a 73. Then fate intervened! It was the summer of 87, and I stopped in a local gas store. I spotted the area Auto Trader on the stand and I had to do a double take! Right there on the front cover, a 1973 Trans Am for sale. So naturally, and without hesitation, that Trader was mine! The car was about 3 hours away from where I lived. I made contact with the owner and 3 months later, I was driving her home! Asking price was $3500.00, but after the haggling was done, my account was lightened only $2500.00 dollars! You should have seen the smile on my face as I drove this amazing car back home. Of course, she didn't look anything like she does now. After 20 years, and lots of dead presidents, she has finally reached my dream status. But of course, they're never finished. Always something to do! I drive this car to shows, and she rarely see's a trailer. These cars were made to be driven, and this TA loves the highway! She really likes the gas station too at 9 mpg! LOL...

This Trans Am is kept basically stock looking, until you get a closer up look. She does have her original 455 powerplant. However, along the way I picked up a set of 71 455 HO #197 heads. So I had them built with high performance internals and speed tricks from our local engine builder. As he gave them back to me, the look on his face was priceless! You have an awesome set of trick heads here, he said! It was very cool to see how impressed he was with these rare and powerful Pontiac heads. So, with the heads, the 455 was outfitted with 40 over Keith Black pistons, nice cam package, intake, carb, and hooker super comp headers. 3" custom exhaust, with X pipe, through a set of Flowmaster Super 40's, and custom built 3" turndowns in the Pontiac style take out the burnt fuel and leave a tone in your ears that you'll never forget!
