About “My first car”
Owned from new by my great-aunt, bought by my mum in 1995. Part of our family for 11 years, never really missed a beat. I am still impressed that after being sat for two weeks, it started on the first turn of the key with the temperature 5 degrees below freezing! It did at various times leak oil, petrol, coolant and brake fluid. Oh yes, the brakes - fade-tastic! Not that the engine was capable of getting it up to any sort of speed in a hurry. I suspect the indicated 100 I saw once was a little optimistic! Traded it in for £250, which I reckon is about £250 more than it was worth.
About “F231 SHP”
My faithful daily drive, bought for £127 off ebay in April 2005. Changed all brakes, blew engine, changed engine. Eventually launched it over a hedge and down a 12-foot drop whilst marshalling a rally, but it STILL DROVE!
Specs for “My first car”
55bhp when new, a heater (that took 10 minutes to deliver anything resembling hot air) and a radio-cassette. You can probably count 4 wheels among the 'spec' , along with the ability to change their direction and speed. Who needs equipment, eh?
Specs for “F231 SHP”
954cc TU9 all-alloy fire-breathing powerhouse from a J-reg Citroen AX. Under 40bhp. Shagged gearbox.
