Windfield and Watson Custom Car and Hot Rod Gathering 2010
The Windfield and Watson Custom Car and Hot Rod Gathering actually started as a low-key show hosted by Gene Windfield and Larry Watson at Gene’s shop in Mojave, California, in October 2008. As all good things do, it grew and continues to grow, so much so that in 2010 it was a two-day event, Oct. 23-24, 2010. Unfortunately, 2010 was also the first time that the show had been presented since Larry Watson’s passing, and there were plenty of people who used the event to pay their respects to the late car customizing legend.
This year, like in years past, people drove their custom cars from all over the country to be a part of the event. And there was even a group of pinstripers that flew in from Japan to attend the event. Of course, other hot rod and custom car legends like Bill Hines, Sam Foose, Thom Taylor and Blackie Gejeian were spotted making their rounds, checking out all of the cars that came from both near and far.
And if looking at all the great cars wasn’t enough, there were booths set up all around the perimeter where you could get everything from books to pinstriped bongos and everything in between. There was also a food truck serving up tasty grub to the masses.
We only made it up for Saturday, but we did get to make it to the official cruise night that had been set up at the local Foster’s Freeze complete with live music and more custom cars than could possibly fit in the parking lot. It was a perfect way give the folks who had ventured a long distance something to do other than just camp out in a hotel. Overall it was a great time, and you can bet that we’ll be back this year.
