The custom van world descended on SoCal for its annual Council of Councils van convention. A different group in a different city hosts this event on an annual basis, and this year representatives from several cities around the nation were on-hand.
All vanners, as they are called, received a goodie bag and a dash plaque and were eligible for door prizes. More than 70 vanners participated with vans that ranged from the ‘60s through the ‘90s. The event had a very nostalgic feel with tikis, tie-dye, bell-bottoms and shag carpet.
- Sam Termine from Temecula, CA, took second place Early Van for his 302-powered ’63 Ford Econoline.
- This very rare ’93 Chevy G30 454 Sportvan with 148-inch wheelbase belongs to Scott Keefer of San Diego.
- The patriotic theme is done well in Steve Burrell’s ’90 Chevy Astro van from San Diego.
- Octopus’s Garden won Best Paint. Ron Cabra from Orange, CA, owns the ’71 Dodge B200 with a 318 Mopar motor.
- Al Valor of Huntington Beach, CA, is the owner of this nice ’75 Chevy with a short wheelbase, 4WD and 350 Chevy power.
- Vango, a very customized ’63 Ford Econoline owned by Coby Gewerts, won Best of Show. It also won its class at the 2011 Grand National Roadster Show.
- Fred Durfee brought his clean ’74 Chevy van from Ontario, CA, and won first place in Mild Van.
- Glenda Sammett brought her very stretched, dual-axel Ford van.
