Hitting the Jackpot at Hot August Nights

Maybe it was the prospect of winning big on the gaming tables or taking home a big-time trophy. Or maybe it was just too good a party to miss, but you’d never suspect the economy was down from the turnout at Hot August Nights in Reno, Nev. The numbers tell the story — a 10-day event with 6,600 cars, 800,000 visitors, and some $350 million impact to the local economy. The most important stat of all was the miles of smiles for all who rolled in for a world-class car extravaganza.

2009 Pebble Beach Concours Week

Car enthusiasts descend on the beautiful Monterey peninsula year after year for the world’s premier automotive event, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, held at the Lodge at Pebble Beach. This year marked the 59th gathering, and capped what has become a weeklong paradise in the month of August for car lovers of all kinds. From vintage car racing to a leisurely day walking the Carmel-by-the-Sea Concours on the Avenue to Sunday’s grand Concours, back-to-back activities provided steady entertainment.

From the moment we turned the first wrench on Operation Muscle Truck the concept was to create a pickup with a performance slant. It had to hug the ground, go around corners like nobody’s business, have a vintage muscle car era feel, and be stuffed with a power plant that would set pilot and passengers back in the seats.
