2nd Annual B&M/Hurst Classic Motorsports Charity Car Show

Friday, July 31st, 2009

14589_thumb_01JPEGThe spectators and the sun came out for the 2nd Annual B&M/Hurst Classic Motorsports Charity Car Show on Sunday, April 19, 2009. The crowd of thousands, along with over 400 cars, packed the street adjacent to the B&M complex. With registration open to all domestic vehicles manufactured from 1900-1973, (and the new muscle cars), there was a great and varied collection of cars, trucks and even a few vans in attendance. Proving that the B&M guys have their hearts in the right place, all proceeds from the show will go to the SEMA Scholarship Foundation.

The 7th Annual Wavecrest Huntington Beach Cruiser Meet

drv-171-1

Photos by Simon Richards

No matter how good a show may be, sometimes the location is as good as the show itself. Such was the case with the 7th Annual Wavecrest Huntington Beach Cruiser Meet. Sure, the place was filled with sweet woodies and wagons, not to mention some fine hot rods and muscle cars. With its Huntington Beach pier plaza and adjacent Main Street location, though, this show is hot in more ways than one.

drv-237-3

While Carol and I were touring New Zealand in May 2007, one of our hot rod Kiwi pals, Geoff Mitford-Taylor, suggested we make a return trip in 2009. One idea led to another and the next thing I know, the Marineland Street Rod & Kustom Klub is hosting an event celebrating the anniversary of the ’34 Ford. After many calls, I decided I was going. Then I get another call from Geoff speculating if ZZ Top front man, Billy F. Gibbons (the original rock ‘n’ roll gearhead), might like to attend-nothing short of an act of God. After much negotiations with ‘management’, Billy’s on board as well and the event becomes ‘A Cabaret Evening with Billy F. Gibbons’.

Count’s Kustoms Builds a ’32

The King played there, so why not a Count? The one I speak of is not Basie, but Koker…Danny Koker. He is the owner of Count’s Kustoms, and for those who like hot rods and custom motorcycles, Count’s Kustoms is one place in Las Vegas that’s a sure bet.
