Bowling Green – - What Other Color Is There?

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011

The Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum presented by Automobile Club of Southern California has announced a major change to the schedule for the 9th Annual Holley NHRA National Hot Rod Reunion. Instead of the Friday through Sunday format, the event will now run Thursday through Saturday. The reasons for the one-day move up are many, but primarily it was done because people said they wanted to be with their families on Father’s Day. Also, many of the long-distance attendees wanted to be on the road heading home on Sunday. Consequently, the event has been moved up a day. The action is now scheduled for June 16-18 at the historic Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, Kentucky, Beechbend.com (http://www NULL.beechbend NULL.com/). (more…)

This Woodie Delivers the Goods in Style

Monday, April 18th, 2011

If something needs to be done, it may as well be done with a little style. That was the thinking behind building this 1948 Chevrolet Fleetmaster Woodie owned by the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California. Having a lot of pomp and circumstance surrounding the winner’s trophy presentation has a long and storied history (mostly involving cute trophy girls giving the winner a kiss; it’s a tradition we wholeheartedly support, by the way). The 13th Annual John Force Holiday Car Show

Friday, April 15th, 2011

As a parent of two young boys, ages 10 and 7, I have worked hard to preserve the fantasy of jolly Saint Nick. I’ve done everything from getting the “list” to staying up late on Christmas Eve attempting to assemble that Big Wheel from a set of instructions that could drive the best of us to drink. But we as a family are on the brink of needing to shift gears, so speak. It is time to focus more on the spirit of Christmas and help our kids to understand that while Saint Nick may not be a real person, his representation of giving and caring for one another lives in our hearts. This spirit of giving is something that John Force and family clearly understands. (more…)

Replacing Mustang Fender Sheet Metal

Tuesday, April 12th, 2011

We lived through the ‘70s. It was a weird time for many things (i.e.: bell bottom pants) and customizers were doing wild things, many for just plain odd reasons. But many good ideas (i.e.: hot pants) from then remain good today. The difference is how that idea is implemented. One of the hot ideas of the time was to put wide rear tires on the back of your car. This remains popular today, but today the way to get that wide (and tall) tire look is to narrow the rearend and add wheels tubs. Back then, the way to do it was to add flares to the rear fenders and let that rubber hang out in the breeze. Usually made out of fiberglass, the flares were on everything from vans to muscle cars. This classic Mustang was one of these vehicles modified in such a way. (more…)

The Brothers Ring — The Next Great Shop?

Friday, April 8th, 2011

Most of the features that appear in Drive! Magazine are about vehicles that we have seen at a show. You know, we walk by, see a real nice car and then track down the owner to learn the particulars of the car and whether or not the owner is interested in letting us shoot the car. (more…)

Thousands Thrilled at JFR Holiday Car Show

Monday, April 4th, 2011

The 13th annual John Force Racing Holiday Car Show was estimated to be one of the biggest in recent memory by the fans and JFR personnel. A crowd of between 15,000 and 20,000 people enjoyed the sights and sounds on Sunday, December 5 at our Yorba Linda facility throughout the day. More than 1,000 hot rods and custom cars were on display, including talk show host Jay Leno’s completely restored Ford Galaxie. The event would not have been possible without the help and support of the event’s sponsors: SYSTEM 51, Auto Club of Southern California, Villa Ford and ROUSH. (more…)
