Bandit Run 08 Smokey and the Bandit Filming Locations Tour

Yes, boys and girls it’s that time again. We are going to tour some of the locations where the movie was filmed for Smokey and the Bandit. For those of you that went last time, I hope you can make it again this year. I know I had a blast and surprisingly no one wound up in jail. I have never heard so many movie quotes over the CB in my life. You guys were crazier than I am, and I’m pretty crazy.

This year will be different as we will tour on Friday, May 16th. I know last year many had to head home on Sunday and missed it. This will be an optional tour as the Year One Experience will open on Friday. We plan to leave from the Year One parking lot in the morning and return mid- afternoon. The route is from Braselton to Atlanta to Jonesboro to YOE. Lunch plans and more details will be announced soon.

This year I have obtained permission to show everyone Lakewood Fairgrounds. There is an event already scheduled there on the 16th, so we will need to be flexible with their security. This is where the beginning and the end of the movie were filmed. It is also where the Hammock scene, the gate Snowman crashed, the Southern Classic Racetrack Grandstands, and the very end of the movie where Bandit says, “Look over your left shoulder” were filmed.

4. “Coor’s” Warehouse
5. Cop Car in lake backwards (first chase scene in the movie with Frog, fisherman jumps in lake),
6. Where the Bandit picked up Frog in her wedding dress
7.Lake where Fred went swimming
8. Bridge that Bandit jumped over (some of it is still there)
9. Where Buford said, “What we’re dealing with here is a total lack of respect”,
10. Where Buford lost his roof
11. Car in ditch being pulled out by wrecker and Buford argues with cop about his fowl language,
12. The Welcome to Texarkana sign scene.
13. Then we will return to the YOE.

I need your name and contact information. The car count is very critical because we might need traffic control from our good friends in law enforcement. Police helping the Bandits? That’s a switch. But seriously, getting through Atlanta and Jonesboro in the morning will be tricky. I will provide maps and information (including my cell number if you get lost) as I did last year. The more CB’s the better as I need everyone “to run my back door” again. We don’t want to lose anybody.
