Public data line is used for connection to F3-D truck scanner, Data line is used for communication with ECU as well as information communication with other vehicle electronic devices, such as electronic instrument panel and other devices. Some engines have two public data lines: one is in the whole wiring harness (engine side data line); another is separated from ECU harness, normally locate in cab.

Pic.4-33 shows the data lines of early electronically controlled engine. They all have a rectangular 12-pin connector. There are 3 kinds of special harness that used for different type of diagnostic data connector, when troubleshooting, maintenance technician connect appropriate diagnostic plug to diagnostic data connector, and then can download fault code saved in ECU memory. New type of electronically controlled engines all adopt standard SAE data line as shown in Pic.4-34?b?.The connection of 6-pin connector is as below, when detect communication failure between pin and truck diagnostic tool, you can measure voltage of this pin with digimer.

In order to diagnose and remove fault, connect Fcar auto scanner to diagnostic socket of vehicle, as shown in Pic.4-37.It has special functions as follow, such as engine off-cylinder running, test injection solenoid valve response time, calibrate and replace injector, take rapid sample of engine data, user can limitedly alter ECU program etc. under engine manufacturer restricted working condition or characteristic parameter.
??Maintenance technician can use Fcar scanner to enter ECU memory, monitor sensor output, read DTC, And also selectively program options that already exists in system.

In other words, J1587 and J1708 data communication system can provide data of sensor and engine to other control modules of vehicle.
?SAE J1922 and J1939 these two standards enable ECU to communicate with other electronically controlled system such as ABS, drive slip control system(traction control system),to provide data for other electronically controlled systems. Vehicle communication line connects J1922 and J1939 data control interfaces of ECU to other electronically controlled systems, J1939 data transmission system adopts CAN communication protocol.

??To read DTC, the diagnostic connector must be found firstly and then connect with diagnostic scanner (as shown in Pic 4-36).As engines and automakers are different, diagnostic sockets are normally different. Considering diagnostic socket used by some automakers are not standard connectors, the diesel version of Fcar car scanner are now equipped with diagnostic connectors of common vehicle models, but there are still part of models assembled with different diagnostic connectors because of different requests of manufacturer. 1.Euro III vehicle
Normally diesel vehicle is 24 V battery voltage. So here take 24V as an example, make a brief introduction about pin definition of Euro III and Euro IVvehicle engine diagnostic socket.
??This vehicles usually adopts KWP2000 communication protocol, diagnostic socket is usually 4-pin.Convertion is ground wire, fire wire, K line 1,kK line 2.Use high resistance type digital multimeter under the condition of ignition key on.
???Here will not introduce how to use multimeter?,measure the voltage of 4 pins respectively, normally ground wire 0V,fire wire 24V,2 K lines are about 22V(little lower than voltage of fire wire).
??Now connect one end of main testing cable to auto diagnostic scanner, another end DB15 connect to jumper box. Select the correct jumper according to pin on vehicle, connect ground wire on vehicle to GND on jumper box, fire wire to VCC. 2 K line connect to 7# and 15# jack respectively. Now Power light on jumper box will be seen on, and then select the correct vehicle model menu in auto scanner to enter. If still unable to test, you can contact Overseas Dept. of our company for assisting test.
2.Euro IV model

Benz ME2 engine controller code menu
After entry to ME2 engine, [url=http://WWW.Fcar.COM ]Fcar.COM [/url]car diagnostic code reader will display menu, select “controller code” to enter submenu. Read and execute code.

Select the first item of submenu: “Read and execute code”,F3-W or F3-G vehicle diagnostic scanner first read code unit No., code, chassis No., and prompt whether to transfer code to new control model. If select “No”, then back to previous menu. If select ”Yes”,then prompt to close ignition switch, next display replace old control module with new control module and prompt to open ignition switch. Fcar car diagnostic code reader shows read vehicle computer information. Transfer the above data and prompt whether to carry out identification.

After confirm, Fcar car diagnostic code reader judge this control module whether interlocked or not. If interlocked, then prompt “failure to identify, vehicle engine control unit has been locked!”, and return to main menu. Otherwise prompt to input chassis No.

Entry to control unit locking after finished, Fcar car diagnostic code reader prompt “Important! After starting engine for 40 times, engine control unit will be automatically locked! Times of engine starts”, next prompt to start engine, and shows engine speed about 1 minute. Thereafter prompt ” this control module whether match with vehicle? Whether start to be locked”

After confirm, prompt warning information: “Warning! cannot change once control module installed on vehicle! whether start to interlock?”, finished locking prompt ”cannot change after control module interlocked ”.At this moment, special attention to input of chassis No. in the whole process and cannot go wrong.

This full automatic electronic system can issue four kinds of different damping command to each wheel according to different situation. Moreover, it can control the number of spring vibrations under certain conditions, making steering stability not affected, vehicle can start smoothly.

After entry to system, “controller code” in display menu of F3-W car diagnosis tool, display submenu.

Program for specified customers
Select the first item in menu:” Program for specified customers”.F3-W auto scanner tool first read original program, and provide two different options for user: Customer type and standard type. Choose proper type according to actual needs.
Horizontal adjustment: Front axle/rear axle
Select the second item in menu: “Horizontal adjustment front axle/rear axle”. This function is for adjusting front axle horizontal valve and rear axle horizontal valve.

After entry to this menu, F3-W auto diagnosis tool first shows front axle horizontal value, rear axle horizontal value and fault code condition. Meanwhile, user can adjust height of front axle and rear axle; after adjustment, then come to the next step, display front and rear axle height, and prompt whether to save this value.

After user confirmed this value, F3-W car diagnosis tool will send this value to ECU, and matching over.

Note: For some new VW/Audi vehicles, the channel cannot be used when enter into automatic transmission control system. Here must perform adjustment setting in "01-engine control system ", its channel No. is"063".

Use F3-G scanner detection Component Control Test executive components and their circuit operation are normal

Take F3-G auto diagnostic tool as an example:
?Component Control Test? used for testing whether electronic control executive components and their circuit action are normal.
As Note: When the test of all the executive components is completed, the screen of automotive diagnostic scanner will prompt "action test over,
please exit". In the static state (that do not start the engine) sending commands to vehicle computer through decoder, driving actuators to work to detect the goodness or badness of actuator. The test content of the executive components as the electronic control systems are different, the test items supported are different. Mainly some solenoids, relays and other components. For example: take the Passat B5 car as an example:
1: The test components supported by engine control system are: four fuel injectors, ACF electromagnetic valve etc.. In test, first start with cylinder 1 nozzle, conduct action test one by one until finished testing all the components. At this time using Stethoscope to listening the action situation of components to determine whether the components work properly;

2: The test components supported by anti-lock braking system are hydraulic pump and oil line solenoid valve; in test, in accordance with the prompts of car diagnostic scanner, hydraulic brake and each oil line solenoid valve take action according to order, checking the action situation to determine whether the system work properly.

3:The test components supported by test instrument system are a variety of indicator and gauge needles, etc.; in test, all kinds of indicator lights, if a certain light bulb does not shine, then should check whether the bulb and its circuit are normal; all kinds of gauge needles at the same time turning from zero scale to full scale, check whether the gauge needles are normal.
Other electronic control systems of different models have different test components items according to their own characteristics.

Remark: If lack of vehicle electrical equipment knowledge or unable to confirm electrical equipment power supply, please don’t operate jumper, for error operation of jumper may lead to malfunction of electrical failure or FCAR F3-D main unit and wire.

? Digital high impedance multimeter (can not use Analog Multimeter)
? When ignition switch to ON Gear, there is supply voltage of vehicle on diagnostic socket. Voltage difference between voltage on diagnostic socket and vehicle battery side can not be above 2.5V.
In diagnosis, if the signal line used is single-line communication (K line), voltage on signal line lower than battery voltage,(if vehicle supply voltage is 12V,then voltage on signal line is 11V, + 0.25V;if 24V,signal voltage is 21V,+ 0.25V)
If double signal line adopts CAN communication, 2 diagnostic lines use multimeter to measure ground wire voltage under the condition that ignition switch open, the sum of both voltages is 5V,average 2.5V,the one voltage little higher than 2.5V is CAN-H, the one voltage lower than 2.5V is CAN-L.
??After understanding of the above, then you can use auto scanner to read DTC. Now make a brief introduction of operation steps for FCAR scanner to read DTC: Confirm diagnostic socket connect properly and then turn on power switch of scanner, and select Diagnostic menu

If need to clear DTC saved in ECU memory, then must select “Clear DTC” menu option. At present, all Electronic Control Systems are required to use this method. Some first generation of Electronic Control System can clear saved DTCs by way of using scanner or dismantling ECU power fuse for 10s and then install. The shortcoming of this kind of system is all DTCs appeared and recorded in the process of driving will disappear once driver cleared DTCs, therefore maintenance technician and fleet maintenance manager would know nothing about the problem of engine and vehicles.

Note: Before clearing DTC, better write down DTCs, also can use printing function of Fcar scanner.

Data Stream Save and Delete

User self-study data stream will auto save in ?SAVED?folder of Sd Card, as shown in Figure 4.5.1 and pls save this folder to the physical HD of your PC to avoid data stream missing. Format SD card before upgrade, After finishing the upgrade, put back the folder to SD card to recover normal data stream. If no need save the data stream, you can format SD card directly.

???With the development of technology and atmospheric environmental protection, diesel vehicles are gradually applying electronic controlled engine Euro III, Euro IV etc.. During repair, auto diagnostic scanner is required for diagnosis and inspection, some inspection methods and steps for using Fcar car scanner to diagnose FUSO(Pic.1) will be introduced as below:

1? Connection of scanner
A, First connect, testing cable to OBD test head and main unit.
B, Find diagnostic socket location of this vehicle(See Pic.2)
C, Connect diagnostic socket and turn ignition switch to ON
D, Turn on Power switch of Fcar scanner

Note: Actuation test must be performed under condition that control setting matching, sensor and line are confirmed normal, otherwise, it will leads to operation failure. If operation still failed in case of system normal, then means this vehicle not installed with actuation test system and no such function.

3, Maintenance experience
???To perform vehicle engine system diagnosis and inspection, you must be familiar with usage of auto diagnostic tool and diagnostic methods and steps, such as check engine data stream, compare engine speed, high speed, idle speed, static state, working condition, so as to judge sensor is good or not.
???Actuation test is used for check control unit and parts whether work normal and also a method for Fcar scanner to judge the cause for fault.

1?Connection method of CAN line communication diagnostic socket
K line signal voltage is 1V or so lower than battery voltage, Eg, if battery 12V, then signal voltage is about 11V, battery 24V; if battery 24V, then signal voltage is about 23V. When actually measure voltage of pin on vehicle diagnostic socket, there might be deviation of ±0.25V.

Connection method for K line communication with diagnostic socket and Fcar jumper box as shown in picture: signal wire connect to No.7 hole, power line(battery voltage) connect to VCC hole, ground wire connect to GND.

CAN line communication adopts double line of communication, under the condition that ignition switch on, to measure voltage of 2 diagnostic wire with multimeter,
The sum of voltage for the two is 5v, CAN-H line voltage is 2.5?0.25V, CAN-L line voltage is 2.5?0.25V,actually there might be deviation of ±0.25V or so.


Connection method for K line communication with diagnostic socket and Fcar jumper box as shown in picture
CAN-H connect to No.6 hole, CAN-L connect to No.14 hole, power line(battery voltage)connect to VCC hole, ground wire connect to GND.

Note: When actually measure voltage of pin on vehicle diagnostic socket, there might be deviation of ±0.25V.

Connect jumper box with main testing cable, and lock fastening bolts, as shown in left picture.
15 jumper connection holes with numbers marked beside will be seen on jumper box, the corresponding numbers to these connection holes is node relation of standard OBD-II port.

Base on diagnostic socket information of vehicle, connect diagnostic interface of jumper box.

??After connection, turn on ignition switch to ON, at this time power indicator light on jumper box shall be on. Press switch of F3-D main unit,F3-D main unit work properly, appropriate system can be selected for diagnosis.

Note: If lack of knowledge about vehicle electrical equipment or cannot confirm power supply to electrical equipment, please don’t perform jumper operation, for error jumper operation will lead to vehicle electrical equipment or Fcar main unit and cable malfunction.


Vehicle diagnostic equipment socket related information confirm and tools?
?1??Digital high impedance multimeter(must use high impedance multimeter, otherwise will cause damage to computer board)
?2??When ignition switch to ON, diagnostic socket has supply voltage from vehicle, the voltage difference between voltage on diagnostic socket and that of vehicle battery end cannot be above 2.5V.
?3??If signal line used in diagnosis is signal wire communication (K line),voltage on signal line is 1V lower than battery voltage(if vehicle supply voltage is 12V,then voltage of signal wire is 11V±0.25V; if 24V supply, voltage of signal line is23V±0.25V?.
?4??If the communication of duel signal line adopts CAN communication, under the condition that two diagnostic lines in ignition switch on, to measure voltage of ground wire. The sum voltage is 5V, CAN-H line voltage is 2.5V?0.25V?CAN-L line voltage is 2.5V?0.25V, actually there may have deviation of ±0.25V or so.
