Well.. WS87 has officially passed the point of no return...
The before...

The after....

That was just a guestimate of where to cut... so then I test fitted the temp engine..

and found out that I need to cut about 1/4" more all the way around.. but not too bad..

Well.. decided to go fully LT1 now... so selling off the Vette 350.
Bought an LT1 wiring harness and have most of the parts for the LT1.. I think I just need gaskets and some of the bolts.
Today I spent test fitting hte tranny (cutting a little more.. and I think I need to trim just a hair more.. but its close for now.
I also started tearing apart the dash to start making sense of what the previous owner did.. they tried to install a Viper alarm system (BADLY) as wel as other things... LOTS of bad splicing.. so I have a feeling a full rewiring of the car will be necesary.. as well as converting to OBD2.... such a nightmare.. but in the end.. I'll be able to say I built it.

Trust me.. it hasn't been easy.. or quick.. and DEFINATELY not cheap!!!
But its finally moving along.. a few more bolts, new springs and pushrods and I should be able to assemble my engine and mate it to the clutch and transmission.. then bolt it to the suspension.. wheel it under the car and bolt it up.. then when the rear comes.. (hopefully someday.. having probs with Money orders aparently) I can get her on her wheels again for the first time in about 9 months.. get some sound deadener... hopefully a new carpet from year one when I'm down there... reassemble the interior.. then tackle the wiring nightmare and I should be

If the rear would get shipped this decade.. and if I didn't have all the wiring to deal with, it is actually an attainable goal.. but without wiring and a rearend.. it isn't possible. We'll see. She WILL be DRIVABLE by August 31st!!

SWEEEEEEET!!! BTW, what made you go this far with a 3rd gen.? Not knocking them, but they are not the most likely candidates for this much work.Mattp

HAHAH.. it wasn't supposed to go this far... I bought the car because it was a good condition 3rd gen T/A with a v-8 setup (something I was never able to obtain back home), but the previous owners did a BAD hackjob of an engine swap and did a VERY bad job at touching the wiring inside and out. But the body had almost no rust anywhere that I could tell. And for 1,000 not bad. So I bought the car, tried to get the engine running, but kept running into probs, and more and more previous owner screw ups... so time to pull the engine and see what they REALLY put in.. they said it was a 383 crate motor... well.. cracked it open.. nope.. its a remanned engine (prob Advance auto parts or Autozone engine as it is a mexican casting) stock 350 cam, stock 350 crank, pistons were .060, and one cylinder looks sleeved. but engine itself looks like less than 20k on the rebuild.
Anyway, had a buddy that pulled his LT1 out of his Camaro for a REAL 383 stroker from Golden Engines. Sold me the long block and heads (wish I would have known more about the LT1 when I bought it, or I wouldn't have... LOTS more accessories/parts than a 350, and NONE of the parts from a 350 swap over.. which I wasn't prepared for... so my 350 is still sitting..
) Then got to thinking how much I miss shifting.. and since the engine was going to be an LT1, why not go to a 6-speed setup... not many 6-speed 3rd gens...
Had an LT1 car LITERALLY fall into my lap for 1200.00 just hood, nose, and opti were bad. Stupid me, didn't look at the car, talked to 2 other friends and we went 1/3s in it.. one got the engine, one got the body,. and I got the tranny, shifter, pedals, and master/slave. (hind sight I should ahve scraped the money togethert, bought it alone, and had a fully running (minus opti) drivetrain to just literally drop in.. but didn't know of the good condition and the deal was already done...
And then I started digging in.. then I found I could fix this.. then I could replace this while I'm here.. then while I'm to this point, I might as well do this.. and.. and.. and... then found out this wouldn't work with the LT1.. then I found this wouldn't work on a 3rd gen... etc.. and you see it where it is now.. LOL. I have LITERALLY wrenched EVERY bolt on this car at this point. So when I put it together.. I can literally say I BUILT a car form the ground up.. which is something I've wanted to do since I was 14.. but never had the time, place, tools, money, or suitable car to do it with until now.
Ok, that was WAY longer than I expected the explanation to be, sorry about that.. but there was a big back story.. lol. And I've had my first car for over 10 years, (the 85 Camaro), and I see with the money/time/etc into this one I plan to keep it that long or longer.. have plans for a rebuild and Turbo in its near future as well.
