    Red--

I'm still in, but will have to cut the trip short on both ends...which means Indianapolis and Cleveland are out.

In addition to one of my direct reports leaving the company (guess who has to fill in while I hunt for a suitable replacement), it's been one thing after another with the car and with the home front (I unfortunately lost one of my Airedales to kidney disease last Thursday...still getting over that bombshell).

The car is about as ready as it is going to get. I have now replaced the water pump, the fuel pump, all belts and hoses, the gas tank sending unit, ALL the fuel lines, the high-pressure power steering line, the front sway bar bushings, the thermostat, and rebuilt the carburetor. Believe it or not, all those items were bad.

I ALSO discovered the shop that rebuilt my transmission a few years back neglected to button down the transmission mounting bolts--which fell out--and stressed a mounting bracket on the exhaust system causing some minor damage. All is now fixed.

The honeycomb wheels have been repainted and are back on the car. I have clayed the car, removed swirl marks, polished, and waxed it. The new radio, CD changer, and CB radio are installed.

I'm going to need this week to recover so I can leave Saturday! I plan to roll into Columbus on the 12th and will be there for the whole enchilada.

    East bound and down,

First timer here and can't wait. Picking up the CB tonight. Need to get a camera and memory card lined up. Need to wax the car up good and put on the 2008 Bandit Run sticker up and a few little touch ups here and there. I'm hoping for good weather and no bugs. LOL!!!

You're just not going to believe this, but the '76 is back in the shop... gloomy image

I made a quick run to the CB store today to get the antenna dialed-in. Good news, the CB works great. Bad news, I have a hot start issue with the car. Everything points to the carburetor (which was recently rebuilt) banghead image . It acts as if it's leaking fuel and setting up rich to the point of flooding when shut off hot.

I'm still hoping to get the car back tomorrow night and get on the road first thing Saturday so I can roll in on Monday at a decent hour.

I'm beginning to wonder if I shouldn't just drive the Jag instead. It's more reliable (yes, it is a sarcastic reference to Jaguar's reputation for spending more shop time than road time).

I'm excited also and having problems like most others. The 74 Show Car has paint issues (falling off on the floor) from all the GM Design changes early in it's life. has many coats of clear coats (was changed from a 73 to a 74 to a 76. Each time somthing on the car was recoated. Anyway I'm coming because I want everyone to see the car as it was found. Not many have seen this car since it's hayday. See you all at Yearone around 3:00 P.M. thursday.

    Matt--

Yeah, the crowd would just love me for driving the 10th Anniversary...I've been putting off fixing the brakes while getting the '76 ready. I don't think a demolition derby is on the agenda for the Bandit Run.

Well, I got the car back home. To quote NASA; "Houston (okay, Dallas), we're go for launch."

Turns out the choke was way out of whack. The carburetor is just fine.

I fire it up and head northeast tomorrow morning at o'dark thirty. With the grace of God and no broken Delco parts, I should roll into St. Louis twelve hours later.

    Best,

    Tinman5
