All of the Trans-Ams in the movie were 76's with 77 front ends. They werent being built yet during filming.

There were a total of 3 cars used in the movie. They were given to Hal Nedham by ponitac. By the end of the fiming NONE of them even ran anymore. In the final scene with the T/A in it at the race track the car was towed into spot it was needed in for the final shots.

That is all per Hal Nedham in his interview about the movie.

Here's a trivia of sorts which is probably too easy: When Frog says "We're going 120" - how fast is the car actually going? Bad editing shows the speed.

The TA was not a four speed, there was a sound effect edit there supplied by the gentleman who at that time owned the car that was used in the movie "Two Lane Black Top" and "American Graffitti" i have seen the documentation from that owner who had a contract with Hal Needham.

When Frog says "we're doing 120" if you look that is how fast they are going in kilometers per hour... tongue image

I have read it and saw all documentaries, and unless i missed something, Hal Needham never has mentioned the scene where the 4 speed sound effect is most noticeable. " The Traffic light burnout scene" This info has never been discussed as far as i know. But the info is out there with documentation for these sound effects. Timeline and documents are all in line with production of the movie. But if i am wrong i will acknowledge that with proof. HAHA, j/k, there are so many discrepancies in the movie. But this is info i came across in talking to someone who built a bolt-to-bolt repro of the two lane black top car. He knew how much i liked the movie and provided me with this bit of info. Again, i may have been duped, but i have not heard Needham address this particular scene, but my memory aint that great either... If someone has evidence to contradict me, please let me know so i will stop talking about it. Thanx, and Happy Bandit Running.
