Well after driving the Datsun for a month in auto tranny form, I got sick of not using my left foot, and just resting my hand on the shifter, though I have been shifting it manually lately...

I started the swap about 2 PM on Saturday, and had most of it done by about 8 PM, just a few details I couldn't finish in the dark.

Sunday came and didn't have much time and spent most of it trying to find a nut to install my solid front diff mount, which I could find and re-surfacing the exhaust flange to eliminate the exhaust leak I had there. Then family obligations meant no more time to work on the Z.

Today I re-installed the exhaust, checked everything over, and then took it out for a drive. A manual Z is one billleeeeon times better than an auto Z. biggrin image

I'm using a Centerforce Dual Friction, and it grabs HARD!! The tires screaming for traction going into 3rd make that apparent.

I'm actually enjoying the L28 that's in this car now, the auto just made that car a real dog, a real slow dog.

    On to the pics:

    Not enough pedals:

    Ahhh, that's better:

This shifter only moves forward and back:

This one also moves side to side. biggrin image

    CFDF:

This is where/how it was done:

Now I have a manual Z, just like it should have been. biggrin image

How did you manage not to get rained on or snowed on while doing the swap?
Did you know that this swap takes less time the more you do it. Here's hoping you don't have to get better at it.I know that you may need some parts for this z so don't hesitate to ask through this forum for help locating anything you need.It was great meeting you and your significant other at the joint meeting in Milton last week and welcome to the club.
    regards Tom

Well, as of today, the car is even better in the tranny department, I installed a 5-speed from an '81 280ZX. smile image

I don't know how this change will effect the way it drives yet, with the different gear ratios, than the 4 speed.

I hope to have the car at Zfest, but am still in the middle of the engine work, which after today is coming along nicely, it's been FAR too long since I drove the 240. frown image

I hope I don't have anything come up between now and Zfest. *crosses fingers*

The latest I plan to have the car running is Saturday morning, that will give me all Saturday to tune. Lukily I live about half an hour from the location, so it should be good. smile image

    Here's to hoping!
