About me and my passion for cars
I think that growing up in the 1950s and 60s and seeing all the neat rods go by and not having the money to own one probably fueled my passion in later years. In 1967 while in the Navy I was stationed in Fla. with my wife for the first two years. We found a beautiful 1960 Impala convertable and that really lit the fire. I now am retired and have a 1955 Buick Special Riviera 4 dr. hardtop in peices in my shop. Originally I was going to restore it stock but didn't take me long to realize that I wasn't going to live long enough to find all the original parts or be able to afford them if I did find them.It is now becoming a retro rod/cruiser. The idea is to drop a hi pro 350 or a 383 stroker in it.
My first car
I had to save up and buy my own car as my folks didn't have a lot of money. We lived in a small town and there were a lot of cool cars and hot rods to drool over. It was the summer of 1963 when my Uncle took me and some of my friends to :Portland, Oregon to find my first car. I had $225 in my pocket. to do the deed. We searched all day and I finally ended up buying a 1957 Fairlane 500 Delux four door sedan. I really wanted a two door but that just wasn't going to happen. It was two tone green and white and was in really good condition inside and out. On the plus side it had the 312 police intercepter engine and would that old boat go. It was an automatic but would still burn the tires off from a stop. Lots of fun memories about that old Ford.
Car I wish I still had
I have owned a number of neat cars through the years. I owned a 55 Chevy second edition step side with big back window. I had a 1962 Corvette. I had a 1969 Chevelle Malibu sport coupe. I had a 1965 Pontiac Le Mans coupe. I owned a laqure black 77 Z 28 Camaro, but the one car that I owned that I wished I had back over all the others was a mint, fire engine red 1960 Chevrolet Impala Convertable. How I wouuld love to have that car back.
My dream car
That is a tough one as there are so many. Maybe a 61 Impala SS 409 bubble top or a 67 Corvette roadster with the FI 427. Oh and so many others.
