About me and my passion for cars
When I was six years old my father brought home a brand new, special order custom avocado green colored 1970 Ford Ranchero. It had a 4:10 rear, hurst shifter and more goodies that my old brain can remember -- but what I do remember is the fast look of the car (/truck) and the sound of the exhaust -- and my father playing in it with me in the car. Scared the daylights out of me, but I never wanted him to slow down. I suppose today that's why I'm a face your fears kind of person. I
God I wish I could find that car -- it's probably sitting in some junkyard rusting away, forgotten and not worth refurbishing, but the dream is nice.
Now, what turned me into Ford Girl Gone Bad is another story, lol -- I was looking for a cheap set of wheels as a daily driver to save some gas and to have a few years before my oldest started driving. Figured I could pass it onto him when the time came -- well, the time is here, but he's not getting my car! LOL. The first time I drove it, it was completely stock - 305 TBI, flowmaster exhaust and not much more in upgrades, but when I hit the gas it took me back to the days of driving my '70 Mustang. I called it "Mommy's Mid-Life Crisis." Next thing you know, I was on ebay daily looking for new parts and pieces to restore her back to original. About the same time I started dating a nice man who owned a body shop -- he kidnapped the car for four months or more and when I got her back, she wasn't stock anymore.
I still have more planned for her, I bought a Wheeler 383 Stroker this spring and am hoping to gather the funds for the rest of the bolt-ons this winter to swap out that nice 350, then you can visit me at the track...who says mom's can't have fun too?
My first car
1976 Mustang II Ghia 4 Banger -- she was slow, but she had a sunroof and got me where I needed to go.
Car I wish I still had
1970 Mustang Convertible w/302 Boss -- absolutely loved that car. Metallic bright blue with white top, white pin stripe and little white mudflaps on the rear. I had it in 1985, wish frame machines were back then what they are now.
My dream car
Eleanor - while I may be a Ford Girl Gone Bad, it doesn't mean I've gone stupid. Old Mustangs will always have a sweet spot in my heart.
