About Rickaz28’s Garage
About me and my passion for cars
It's more about how I learned to drive.
1958 or 1959 and Boston was as wild then as it is now.
My Dad worked in the family business and he delivered people's groceries to their homes.
He hated to drive on the "traffic light every 50 feet".
It was a Chevy truck with wood stakes. It had a 3 speed on the floor, and I could barely get my foot on the clutch.
I did pretty good but when I free wheeled going around the corners he would shout so loud that you could hear him 2 blocks away.
I am on a hill, and riding the clutch to prevent roll back and he says "brake the truck, don't burn out the clutch".
The traffic starts to move and he starts yelling "throw out the clutch, throw out the clutch".
I rolled down the window.
He says, "what the F^*# are you doing"
I answer, "how am I gonna throw out the clutch with the window up?"
He laughed and the truck rolled back into someone but I was just behind the wheel at a very young age. I just love to drive. The more powerful the engine, the happier I am.
My first car
1951 Dodge Coronet Convertible.
It was my aunt's car.
It had all the bells and whistles of the time. All that chrome inside and out with a "gyromatic transmission", you clutched it into first gear and it shifted by itself!
The top needed replacement and a beautiful blue plad was in order.
It was terrific for a 17 year old in 1962.
Car I wish I still had
Oh my 1968 Firebird 400 HO.
Custom ordered, outside tach, full instuments, M22, 3.9 rears, Koni shocks,
Got drafted, put the car on blocks.
I get a letter from my Dad while I'm in Vietnam, "great news, we sold your car...
I opened a clip and sent home a live round out of my M-16.
My dream car
2008-2009 (which ever comes first)
