About me and my passion for cars
My passion for cars started later than I would have liked, looking back. It started in high school after reading an article in the newly created Automobile Magazine about the Porsche 959. Of course, I was also into hair bands and trying to win girls over with my stellar bass playing (HA!) and stylish mullet (HA HA!) so I never really got very deep into the late 80's car scene.
I've always been a Corvette fan (sometimes a fanatic)... favorites are the '63 Split window, '71 ZL-1, '78 Indy Pace car, and the ZR-1.
I didn't get deep into the car scene until after I was run out of college, got a real job, bought a house, then bought a '90 300zx Automatic. Loved that car... I found the Triangle Z Club and its been downhill from there! Started doing track events with them (combined with the Tar Heel Sports Car Club) and within a year was helping to organize the events. I'm now the co-event chair, registrar, co-event steward, and general party planner for all TZC/THSCC track events.
I've recently started my own track day business called Asphalt Ventures, LLC. We'll be hosting one-day (usually Mondays or Fridays) advanced driver lapping events at various road courses here in the South East.
I am a very outspoken proponent of on-track safety... even going against the grain on some things (I disagree with some very well known safety "experts", product manufacturers, and rival event organizations). I'm not afraid to speak my mind on the subject either.
My first car
My first car was a 1978 Toyota Celica GT 5-speed hatchback. Damn I loved that car (don't we all love our first?). My dad had it painted metallic grey and had a custom grey velor and grey vinyl interior installed. That car got me in and out of lots of fun, and not so fun situations. Haha... like the time we loaded it down with 26 cases of out of date MGD when my best friend worked at a local Triangle Area distributor... drove it across county line to my dorm at NCSU... yeah... good times!
Car I wish I still had
Sometimes I wish I had that Celica, cause it sure would be fun to turn it into a sweet track car... but I really wish I still had that '90 300zx. The car was just so easy to drive, was always reliable, and always looked spectacular, even just sitting still.
My dream car
Dream car is tough... cause you never really know. If I had to choose one, regardless of ever actually having driven it (let alone even seen on actually in person) it would have to be the Porsche 959. I know there are more potent cars out there... but something about that car... its exclusivity, even its sleeper styling. Gotta be sliver though :D
