About Vegaman’s Garage
About me and my passion for cars
Give me a 5 car garage, a bedroom, bathroom and a kitchen and I'll be happy.
Pulling serious G's in my cousins 500 hp '69 Camaro got me hooked on speed, though I've loved hot rods since I was 7.
I now own a '95 Olds Aurora - (greatest engine detroit ever put out, the Northstar-- lots of power pound per pound.)
'71 Vega Station wagon - 350 engine and 200R tranny will soon hit the road. Speed, mileage and luxuries. I like to have my cake and eat it too.
69 Mercury Monterey - bought so I'd have a car to drive that does not feel the road, then loaned it (permanently) to my brother when his SUV was totaled.
'49 Dodge 1 ton Pick up. My grandad bought it brand new and paid cash. Now it's mine. Hope to work on it as soon as the Vega's running.
'48 Dodge 1 ton pick up. For parts and then maybe a rat rod to sell for $ to help make up for the Vega expenses.
'79 Honda Goldwing motorcycle - needs the engine rebuilt. I keep it because I'm the eternal optimist.
'78 Honda Goldwing - for parts.
I'll take a 1966 to 1971 car any day over a "new" car.
My first car
1969 Impalla Convertable.
Purple, with a white interrior and white top.
Lots of rust and a 350 V8. Never shoulda sold that one.
Car I wish I still had
1:My '72 Vega.
262 V8 from a Monza.
All power and luxury.
2:My '66 Pontiac Catolina-
It had a 400 cu in engine that could do low 14's in the quarter mile with a 2 barrel carb.
A great "sleeper"
My '71 Mercury Cyclone GT 351 Cleveland 4-barrel with a C-6 tranny. - Totaled out by a brain dead teenager. It still hurts.....
My dream car
Home made by ME. Something with twin turbos, a tube frame and a tilt front end. :-)E) hehehe

- Just when I think the car is ready to terrorize the streets of Rio Rancho... I find out that the fuel sending unit is LEAKING!!! arggg... and guess what? NOBODY, and I mean, NOBODY makes a replacement.
(any suggestions would be appreciated here.)
Soooo... in my usual manor, I ordered something that's supposed to fit ANOTHER car, (a chevelle), and am going to cut off the sending unit assembly and jury-rig it onto my OLD sending unit mounting plate.. UGH!! much as I hate it, it's the only way to make this thing work without sending the wrong part back and waiting for them to send something from some OTHER year Chevy... and I can't wait that long. The oldsmobile is getting worse and worse. Not sure how much longer I can coax it along. AND
YES, the Vega looks pretty sorry now, with the new vents in the hood and the old bondo falling off. (haha) but I don't care. It goes REALLY REALLY FAST !
I'll paint it someday.

- Had to rework the passenger side header to exhaust pipe connection. welder didn't quite get it FLAT against the collecter, (and there was a small HOLE that needed to be welded shut). Now I have to jury-rig a piece of exhaust pipe into the new curve I ended up with after rotating the connectionn to the header around to clear everything, (AGAIN).
UGH! kinda frustrated here, in case you don't see it. 8-(

- Shipping a 390 V8? If I was paying, I'd hate to find out, but I'll try.

Noise?!!

It's hard to believe, but.... After driving the car around for about 300 miles, adjusting the timing and carburetor, getting new clamps (and 8 more Qts of oil), to hold the oil cooler hoses on so they won't blow off the first time I shift down, (which was...
Update on the Vega

Filed under: 1972 Chevrolet Vega Station Wagon (Vega)
Been working on the Vega like a mad man for a while. Back is paying for it, (sore) but it will be worth it when I fire it up and hear the sweet sound of open headers disturbing the peace around here. ;-) hehehe. I have the engine almost ready now....
