About cactusbob’s Garage

About me and my passion for cars

It all started with Smokey and the bandit movie. Fell in love with the Trans Ams. When I was 17, mom and dad went to Pontiac dealer looking for a new car, maybe a Grand Prix. They had a 84 Firebird SE with 5 speed sitting on show room floor. Dad an I talked mom into it...for a family car! Too bad they didn't let me drive it much.
My collection started with a 74 Nova SS in high school with a 350 and 4 speed. Drove that thing back and forth from Wyoming to Indiana a couple of times then later to Virgina and to Georgia. A lot of good stories in that car...so I've heard...LOL
Went from that car to a 75 Trans Am. Had that for a few years and traded it in on 83 Firebird SE with 5.0L.
Couple years later dropped a 350 in that, but my interenst had shifted to an 88 Formula with 5 speed. Sold the 83 off and drove many miles on the 88. Even with two kids I drove that thing. Even put a trailer hitch on it...(I know...I know...but it was the 90's). Ended up blowing 5th gear out pulling a trailer.
Traded the 88 in for a pickup...ending 12 years of firebirds. Went about 6 years with no birds until I seen the 91 Trans Am. Drove around with the 5.0L for a year until the injectors went bad then dropped the Lingenfelter 383 into it, ending its daily driveability.
When gas prices went out of the world, found a nice 02 Firebird v-6 5 speed to use as my daily driver.
But, gas prices dropped, so i had to trade the v-6 in for a 98 LS1 A4 Trans Am. In staying with my color choice, it is red.
Can't imagine life with out a bird now...

My first car

74 Nova, then on to a 75 Trans Am. Followed by 83 Firebird SE, 78 Trans Am, 88 Formula, 91 Trans Am, 02 Firebird and now a 98 Trans Am.

Car I wish I still had

75 or 78 Trans Am or 88 Formula

My dream car

Pontiac Firebirds and Trans Ams...open to any year.
