About dkaufman’s Garage
About me and my passion for cars
My father had classic vehicles, but he didn't do much with them except keep them on the lot beside our house. He had the 1949 Chevy Fleetline Special that I now own. It was blue when I was growing up; I had it painted and restored to a more original look. He also owned the 1946 Chevy truck, and had used it as one of his first delivery trucks when he opened Kaufman's Furniture and Appliances. I remember riding in both of these vehicles.
I first fell for '69 GTOs when I was in Pawnee City, NE. I was driving around when I saw a burgundy '68 or '69 GTO drive by; it looked amazing with the hood scoops and hood tachometer--definitely a head turner.
All of my classic vehicles now have manual transmissions; from the four on the floor of the '46 to the three on the tree on the '49. The '69 GTO and '74 Corvette Stingray roadster are both four speeds; the GTO with the wide ratio Muncie and the Vette with the close ratio Muncie.
My first car
1984 Ford Tempo GLX five speed.
My dream car
My new '69 GTO has a four speed manual transmission with a Hurst shifter, so it is now my ultimate dream car.
