About me and my passion for cars

The earliest family car I care to recall(lots of impala station wagons) was a 1962 TR3 my Father owned. He would have me shift the gears. I recall a couple of late night summer drives through what was then rural Bucks County PA. I can still smell that car.

My first car

1964 VW Bug. It was my Grandfathers. He bought it new in 64 and then died shortly after. My father gave it to me with a set of craftsman tools and "The idiots guide to Volkswagons" in 1972 My then friend and now Brother in Law, JC Whitneyed that poor car. Big Bore kit, Stinger exhaust, Flared fenders, Chevy wheel adaptors,14x70s,12v battery under the hood so I could play my 8 tracks.... That car caught fire in the Jersey Pines. We were on our way to Philly for a concert (Deep Purple and J Geils Blues Band)and one of the 4 guys in the back seat shorted out the 6v battery under the seat which set the stuffing and fabric on fire. He kept saying his ass felt real hot...the rest was history and still a good laugh. We hitchhiked in and saw the show.

Car I wish I still had

1962 Catalina 2+2. I bought it with 32k original miles in 1974 for $250.00. Except for a small scratch on the right rear 1/4 it was perfect. Original owner was killed in Vietnam and his father drove it until he had to stop driving(scratch was from getting it sideways in the garage). I whooped it for 3 years before passing it on to my brother who was embarrased to drive it. He thought it was a boat. This thing came stock with the 389ci and trips. It was a tire eater. I went thru lots of $16.00 re-treads.I recently saw a restored 2+2 on B+J auctions go for $30,000.00
