My first memory of a car that caught my attention was in New Orleans. It was a Trans Am in the early 70's parked at the mall. As we drove by I remember thinking to myself, "when I grow up that's the car I want." In high school, my first car was my grandmother's 1972 AMC Gremlin cloned into the Gremlin X
(at least it wasn't the Pacer LOL) . I had it painted, added seat covers and Craigers. A couple of friends had the Trans Am (one black & gold S/E, the other Solar Gold). I occasionally had gotten to drive the S/E. Everyone knew it wasn't mine because I was cruising without the tops in 30 degree weather. I had a chance to buy it in 1985 for $3500.00 but my dad said insurance was too high. I have not been in a Trans Am until now, 24 years later. The black and gold has always been my favorite car. I owned one at the end of 2008 and someone made an offer I had to accept. It got away after less than 3 weeks of ownership. I now have a 1979 Solar Gold Trans Am. It is very nice but the feeling of sitting behind the wheel of the black & gold Trans Am is the best. The gold car is just not the same. Had I driven the gold car in high school, maybe I would finally be happy, but after having the black one slip through my hands, I now know what I am missing. I see another S/E in my future, hopefully before I make the 2009 Bandit Run. If not, the gold will do, but it's gonna be hard watching the black ones drive by.
