About vair95’s Garage
About me and my passion for cars
I mostly like to just work on anything mechanical. I do not have much experience on body work, but we'll see what I can do. The Corvair is sentimental, and means a lot to me. Not so much the truck itself, but more what it symbolizes. Good times, fond memories, hard work, and a sense of accomplishment. I have not found anything else that can do that. Flying airplanes is close, but that gives you more of a sense of wonder, the "wow...I am 100% in control of what happens next" factor. Anyways, I just got initial approval to begin working on a small British sports car to rebuild, run for a while, and sell...once the Corvair is complete (the next house will have about a 6 car garage to take care of these things).
My first car
My first car was a 2000 Mercury Cougar, black with leather seats, sun roof, 6 disk CD, 5 speed on the floor.
Car I wish I still had
1993 Chevrolet Caprice Police Package...I went through so many tires saying "hello" to friends leaving smoke and rubber along their entire block
My dream car
Well...Im not sure it qualifies as a "dream" car, but I can't wait to drive my 1961 Corvair pick-up truck.
Favorites
- Type of racing: Fast and straight or circular, none of that twisty crap, I really like going to dirt tracks.
- Driver: Don't care as long as they go fast and in the right direction
- Driving song: Would you go with me--Josh Turner
- Car movie: Cars DUH! it almost made me cry the first time I saw it...Why have we lost such a great piece of America just to get there faster & cheaper. Did we really gain anything?

Filed under: 1961 Chevrolet Corvair (Bessie)
Well, it's been a long time since I made any real progress on Bessie. Today I changed all of that. With the help of a few friends, and a very very old and worn out band saw, I finally finished the fabrication of the bracket that I need for the hydraulic...

Filed under: 1961 Chevrolet Corvair (Bessie)
Today I painted and Installed the parts for the slave cylinder for my hydraulic clutch. It took a little fabricating and creative (redneck) engineering, but it is done. Next is setting up the master cylinder and running the lines. I am hoping that I will...
