The ‘Bandit Run’ Final Route Description

This is it! We have Bandit Runners from all over the country signed-up to participate in this cruise! All of us are excited to get into our beautiful TA’s and make this run. And now, here are more details about what we plan to do!

You’ll notice the route is broken up into three days. You are encouraged to start with us in Texarkana…but that is not a requirement! If you want to join us along the way, that is fine. We will be calling each Bandit Runner before the cruise to determine where along the route you plan to join us. And, if you just want to meet us at our final destination at the YearOne facility in Braselton, GA, that’s perfectly fine too. So, without further delay, here’s the final route!

Tuesday, May 15
Texarkana to Tupelo (382 miles or 6 hours)

Directions:
From Texarkana, TX go 82 east for 88 miles to El Dorado, Arkansas.
From El Dorado continue on 82 east for 93 miles to Lake Village, Arkansas.
------gas up-------
From Lake Village, Arkansas, continue on 82 East for 96 miles to Winona, MS.
From Winona, MS, take I-55 north for 57 miles to exit 243-A/MS 6 East to US 278 East towards Oxford, MS.
------gas up-------
Continue on US 278 for 48 miles to Tupelo, MS.

Schedule Detail:

We’ll start the day in Texarkana at their Classic Car Museum where we’ll get a good southern send-off! Lunch will be in Lake Village, Arkansas. Then, we’ll drive continue to drive all day until we reach Tupelo. There, we’ll check into our hotel(s) and have a group dinner. We will provide a list of recommended hotels but everyone will be responsible for booking their hotel rooms along the route ahead of time.

Wednesday, May 16
Tupelo to Birmingham (137 miles)

Directions:
Take US 78 east for 137 miles to Birmingham

Schedule Detail:
We’re working on a classic car museum tour for the morning, then a ‘show and shine’ and BBQ for lunch. Then, we’ll head east to Birmingham where we’ll check into our rooms and then meet for a group dinner.

Thursday, May 17
Birmingham to Atlanta (146 miles)

Directions:
Take I-20 east through Talladega, AL. For 146 miles to Atlanta

Schedule Detail:

This is the final day of our cruise. Due to the awful traffic in Atlanta, the YearOne folks recommended we get into that area way before the afternoon rush hour. So, we’ll drive straight to their facility in Braselton, GA where we’ll get a welcome and tour of their facility. This is also where you’ll pay for and receive your official ‘bandit run’ registration package. The package will include a lot of commemorative goodies, discount YOE spectator passes, parade lap passes and other stuff. We’re still working out the details on this but it won’t be that expensive (in the 40-50 dollar range at most). After the tour and registration, you’ll be free to check into your hotel for the weekend. The YearOne folks recommend hotels on the www.roadatlanta.com site and specifically the ones closest to the Mall of Georgia. If you plan to do a lot of drag racing, then you might want to go to the www.atlantadragway.com site and see their list of recommended hotels.

Friday, May 18-Sunday, May 20th
The YearOne Experience

Once at the Year One Experience, you will be invited to park your TA at our special VIP area located at the Road Atlanta infield area. Then, you are pretty much on your own for enjoying the weekend’s festivities. We will keep you posted on any special events like the ceremonial parade lap we’ll take in our cars, any special photo ops, etc.

On Sunday, we are also planning an optional movie shoot tour. Some of our Bandit Runners are from Georgia and are very familiar with where specific scenes of the original ‘Smokey and the Bandit’ movie was shot. We’ll announce those details later.

We are trying to keep this whole event as loose and as fun as possible. If you’re like us, you’ll be having a blast driving your car with other Bandit TA owners. What could be more fun? Keep checking back to this site for more details about our run!
