Optional Event: The Movie Location Tour Sunday May 20, 2007

Mar 27, 2007

As a great finish to the Bandit Run and Year One events that are all planned and moving forward strongly, we have scheduled a movie location tour for Sunday May 20, 2007. This tour is optional and with so many people being from out of state, it is hard to pick the best time, concerning traffic, people heading home on Sunday, etc. There again, many people have traveled a great distance and they may want to see it all while they are in Georgia. The Bandit Run is a once in a lifetime experience. Because of everyone staying in different motels and traffic timing, we plan to meet at the Year One building (Exit 129) at 9:00am Sunday morning. Hopefully that will give enough time to pack, checkout of the motel, do the tour and then head home without being too late in the day. It would be better if we stayed in a convoy, but please feel free to follow the map at your leisure. Please be prompt, the tour should take approximately three hours depending on participation.

Toward the end of the tour, I added McDonough to the list. It is very understandable if many decide against driving there. We will only go there if there is enough interest.

I would like to know by April 15, 2007 who plans on participating. Reason number one is traffic control. We don’t want to upset the Jonesboro police or Sunday church services. The Jonesboro Historical Society might do something special for us, depending how many participate in the tour. I have explained to them the possibly of film crews. The Jonesboro paper will probably be there also. They had a ‘Bandit Fair’ years ago, because several local people were in the movie.

I am bringing copies of the original Universal Studio Maps that were used during the filming (from the Georgia Archives). I will also hand out copies of this tour.

Here is breakdown of each location:

A. Year One

B. Bus Stop Scene. The building has been torn down.

C. Intersection where Buford lost his roof. .5 miles from here is where Buford argued with the Alabama Trooper (Alfie Wise) (car in ditch with wrecker scene)

D. Where Snowman’s house was. It has been torn down. The truck pulling into the driveway and the first Trans Am burn out scenes were filmed here.

E. Downtown Texarkana. The Coors building has been remodeled.

F. What is left of the Bridge they jumped over. There has been some major construction work done around the river, but some of the original bridge is still there.

G. Intersection used for Branford’s roadblock. By looking on the map further down Mundy Mill Road (from the intersection) you will notice a street (subdivision) named Willow Bend. Notice the advertising sign for Willow Bend behind Sheriff Branford at the roadblock scene.

H. The Lake where Fred went swimming.

I. The lake where the first chase scene with Frog in the car was filmed. The cop car lands in the lake backwards and the fisherman jumps in the water.

K. Mundy Mill Road. Where the Bandit picks up Frog. Many scenes where filmed on this road. Another one was when Frog looked out the rear window of the TA and says, ”We lost him.” The Trans Am is going in the opposite direction that time. Notice the burn out marks on the road from the pick up scene.

L. Mundy Mill Road. Knocking down mailbox scene and also where Justice said, ”What we’re dealing with here is a complete lack of respect for the law.” The tour can end here with access back to 19/41 and/or to I-75 interstate.
M. McDonough At night scene when Bandits hides behind a brick building and the cop drives by. The brick building has been torn down.
N. Snowman’s Fight Bar. Where the famous fight scene and running over the motorcycle scene was filmed. And that’s all folks!!!!

Here are the other locations that are not on the tour, but I’m familiar with:

Near Helen, Georgia

A. First Alabama scene when he asks Frog, ”You ready Roy?’ and she replies, “I was born ready”

B. Alittle pond hopping, Frog? The creek he drove the Trans Am through and where Justice lost his car door.
C. Unicoi State Park near Helen, The Bridge where they kissed. I think its area 5, maybe 6. The bridge has been rebuilt.

Redan/Lithonia, Georgia

A Football field they drove through

B Funeral scene with Justice waiting on the funeral

We will be setting up a form for all registered parties to submit head counts on the events they will be participating in. If you wish to email Tyler direct to let him know, you may do so at the follow address:
