On the Road Again

By littlemissGTO

Here's video of the car idling before it was tuned. Now that it's tuned it's a lot easier to drive...LOL

It's Alive

By littlemissGTO

Well after what feels like an eternity the car finally runs again! After a very long day of turning wrenches and finding the right bolts it was awesome to hear the car start again.

Update

By littlemissGTO

Parts will be back from balancing this week. Assembly starts next week. That's the kind of news one would like to hear on their birthday.

More Parts

By littlemissGTO

UPS showed up twice today. I'm getting closer to having all of the parts I need to finish rebuilding the motor. FedEx is going to be here in the morning with more goodies.

More Parts

By littlemissGTO

I got quite the surprise from UPS today. My connecting rods finally showed up. I thought I was going to have to call and find out if they got lost in shipping because it had been so long since I ordered them. Thankfully they're here and I've only got a few more parts to order and then the actual building process can start.

Rebuilding Update

By littlemissGTO

Wow it's been one month since the motor was delivered to the builder. Amazing how time flies. I ordered a new timing chain today and it should be here Wednesday or Thursday as long as Summit has it in stock.

If all goes well I should have the GTO back on the road in January. Then I get to do an article for my local club about the car and me.

Rebuilding Update

By littlemissGTO

Talked with my engine builder earlier this week. The crank will be back from machining on Monday. Yesterday I took advantage of a group purchase on stainless steel clutch lines and a remote bleeder. I also ordered Scat rods, Wiseco pistons and piston rings. I'll probably order a clutch and some other small stuff today. Monday when the crank comes back I'm also going to talk with my builder about cam choices.
If all goes well all of my parts will be in over the next three weeks or so and the car will be back together shortly after the new year.

Damage Report

By littlemissGTO

Got the call yesterday. Turns out I spun two connecting rod bearings and was on my way to spinning a third. The rear main seal was leaking and it's time for a new clutch.

I knew I'd need a new clutch and we suspecting that I had spun a connecting rod bearing. The crank can be turned so fortunately I don't have to buy a new one.

Rebuilding the Motor

By littlemissGTO

Finally got the motor uninstalled yesterday. It was a fun, but long day. I learned a lot out a few of my people and I'm very proud to call them my friends.
The motor will be torn down next week and I'll know what exactly is wrong and what I get to replace. I'm hoping and praying that my crank isn't messed up. If it's not this will take a LOT less time and I'll be back on the road by Christmas.

Rebuilding Will Start Thursday

By littlemissGTO

Finally got some garage space to work in. At least 4 other people are going to help me get the motor out. Then the real fun will begin.

I'm looking forward to finding out what exactly is wrong with the car. I'm not looking forward to spending a small fortune to get the GTO back on the road. Maybe by Thanksgiving the car will be back together and ready to terrorize the local streets.

More Woes

By littlemissGTO

Well a couple of weeks ago the GTO started knocking. I stopped and checked the oil. Somehow this beast managed to consume 4 quarts of oil between oil changes. What's REALLY messed up about that is my car sat for 31 days during this time period waiting for a radiator.
I'm way out of warranty. So I took the car to a trusted friend and found out that the car spun a rod bearing. Talk about heart breaking. I talked to him today and found out it's going to take at least a month to get the motor back once it's been pulled. Ugghhh.
Guess it's time to go with forged internals.

Stock Radiator

By littlemissGTO

Well I finally got the stock radiator in my hands and took some pictures of it. I'm amazed at how wimpy it looks compared to the aluminum radiator I had made.

House Arrest Part 2

By littlemissGTO

Well House arrest will be over tomorrow morning. I'm picking up my car finally. The guys at the shop did an awesome job getting the radiator made for me. It looks great and I'll find out just how well it works tomorrow.
All of the mounting points are the same. The stock fans fit perfectly. I don't have to worry about splitting the tanks again. It's just a shame that the radiator won't be seen anytime soon other than in the pictures I've posted.
I plan on driving until I need gas again. When I dropped the car off it had a full tank of gas. My oh my have I missed my car.

Suspension Work

By littlemissGTO

A little more than two weeks ago my brother and I added some new rear springs to my car. The stock springs had started to sag and were causing some pretty nasty tire wear.
It took roughly 45 minutes to install the springs. No scraped knuckles or anything. Quite amazing to be honest.
This was also the day the radiator sprung a leak. Two days later I had to have the car towed. Oh well.

House Arrest

By littlemissGTO

Well it's day 14 without the car. Two weeks ago my radiator sprung a leak. Eventually I found out that it's more cost effective to have a custom radiator built than to repair or replace the stock one. If all goes well I'll have the car back sometime this week.

Race Day

By littlemissGTO

Well the race day went off without a hitch. Everyone had a great time. Lots of smiles and lots of racing all day long.
My brother and uncle made the trip and raced with the club. It was truly a great day.

One person was so excited he didn't sleep much the night before. He made 18 passes. I think his nickname should be Speed Racer.

I need to get started on making plans for another track day next year.

If anyone that came out is reading this thank you for making the day so much fun.

Race Day Prep

By littlemissGTO

Well tonight I'll be stuffing the grab bags for the race day. We've got lots of goodies for all of the racers. One of the local legends is coming out to show us how to race. :D

Busy Weekend

By littlemissGTO

Well on Saturday I finally got a chance to use the new rotary and polish up the car. Spent some time with one of my brothers and my uncle and decided to spend Father's Day with them and a few other family members at the race track the next day.
What a long but fun day. I made 8 passes. Most of those were against family members.
After I was finished at the track I met up with some more family members and caught up on things. Talk about a long couple of days.
Oh well that's how things go some times.

New Shifter

By littlemissGTO

I installed my new shifter last night with the help of a couple of friends. I'm so glad I made this mod I don't really know what to say. Now the hard part is getting the new shifter broken in. I tend to do more highway driving than city driving, and I need to do roughly 100 miles of city driving in order to get the shifter broken in.

My other hobby

By littlemissGTO

Well after some upgrades and frustrations my RC truck is done for now. I'm just waiting on some spare parts to show up and I'm golden. The weather here is finally going to cooperate and I'll be able to get my new motor broken in. Then let the real fun start.

Drag Racing

By littlemissGTO

Well it's spring and the weather is starting to break. Finally. I've been a busy girl helping organize a track day for my local GTO club. Actually the track day is open to anyone that wants to come out and run their car. If you're close by and don't have much going on June 28,2008 come on out and have some fun with us. The format is grudge racing. I personally thing grudge racing is more fun than bracket racing. There will be door prizes and trophies handed out at the end of the day. More information is listed on our GTO club website. Just Google Gateway GTO.

Boredom

By littlemissGTO

Man I can't wait for winter to be over. The GTO doesn't like snow and being bundled up is just no fun. Can't remember the last time I had cabin fever so bad.

Winter Blues

By littlemissGTO

Sadly I've gotta use the GTO as a DD this winter. I swear it's hard enough to keep a black car clean during the summer months, but with snow and salt winter is much worse. Since the temps were in the 40's today I got out and cleaned up the GTO.
I'm sure my neighbors think I'm crazy. In fact one said to me that I'm going to wash the paint off my car...LOL
Oh well it's nice and putry for now. I'm sure when I go out again it will get totally messed up and that's okay.

More Detailing Products

By littlemissGTO

Well I ordered a bunch of stuff last weekend. Looks like I'll be spending a few days next week getting rid of slight imperfections in my paint.
I'm also going to detail a friends car for his wedding. Gotta have a clean GTO to drive away in when you get married.

Making the GTO Shine

By littlemissGTO

Well I'm waiting for a box to show up tomorrow. Which means that I will spend time this weekend washing and waxing the GTO. Then I'll find someone that's firing up the grill and go have some good eats...LOL
Have a safe and happy Labor Day weekend.
