Teacher On Administrative Leave For Taking Students To Hooters
Submitted by C. S. Magor on Sunday, 20 December 2009No Comment | ShareThis.
An Arizona teacher was placed on administrative leave after school authorities learned that she had taken 40 students to eat at a Hooters restaurant in downtown Phoenix.

AZ Central reportsd that Mary Segall, the choir director for Paradise Valley High School accompanied her students to a performance at Arizona Center last week. For lunch, they dined at Hooters. The Paradise Valley High School choir is notable for another reason, the performed at the inauguration of President Obama.

In her defense, Segall told the school principal that the Hooters restaurant was “the only place that could accommodate a group of that size.”

District spokeswoman Judi Willis commented:

We believe that there are many venues for lunch for a large group of people in the downtown Phoenix area. There could have been a choice that might have been more appropriate, given that it was a school-day event with a school employee in charge.

The teacher of 23 years was planning to retire at the end of January, however, Willis said that she was not sure if she would be allowed to return before that point.

This author does not see what the big deal is, although skimpily attired, the staff at Hooters are all fully clothed. If eateries were rated with the same logic as movies, Hooters would be a PG-13.

it's a c-6 no wait 57 chevy no wait a 59..

By lizardbird98

not sure i'd want something like this kind of ugly to me.

Melding design elements from different Chevy models, the 789 shows the world that you really can’t have enough of a good thing. Although the 789 looks instantly iconic, it is actually the best of three classics mounted atop a Le Mans-winning Corvette C6 chassis. Aptly named for the three years represented in the overall design, the 789 has the "hooded eyes"and chrome grille of a ’57, a mid-section that’s reminiscent of a ’58 Impala and the "bird in flight" rear tailfins of a ’59. These three Vehicles are all instantly recognizable classics celebrated by people around the world.

Owning and operating a classic car often proves difficult. Rarity of parts, expertise needed for installation, and potentially high upkeep or restoration costs are some of the problems with which collectors must deal. All of the money in the world spent to modify or modernize a vintage car will not change the reliability or performance problems associated with it. The 789 offers the best of both worlds: retro looks and styling, and it will fire up every time you turn the key. The body is constructed of lightweight composite panels. We have developed a process of using 80% carbon fiber with 20% fiberglass. This process gives us a light weight rigid part as if it was 100% carbon fiber with the minimal properties of fiberglass that allows for show quality paint and finish.

The customer can either provide us with a donor C6 series (2005-2009) Corvette, which currently retails for around $60,000 (though used models can be had for less), or we can locate one for you. After stripping the ‘Vette of its stock body, we hand-graft the retro body panels over the stock frame, suspension, and massive 440-horsepower, 6.0-liter aluminum-block V8 engine. The base cost of conversion is $80,000, which includes choice of interior/exterior color schemes, specific 789 exhaust, and PST high-performance sway bars. A full range of upgrades are available, including up to 800 hp powertrains, custom suspension, audio/video/navigation systems, interior customization, and more. We will build each 789 to meet the customer's specifications. However, please note that no previously built combination of paint scheme and interior treatment will be duplicated.

By lizardbird98

(Not sure who originated this—the one who met Shifty in Philadelphia --but it came through MOAA. I think it is appropriate and warranted to hold an on-line service like this by sending this message to those who care.)

We’re hearing a lot today about big splashy memorial services.

I want a nationwide memorial service for Darrell “Shifty” Powers.

Shifty volunteered for the airborne in WWII and served with Easy Company of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, part of the 101st Airborne Infantry. If you’ve seen Band of Brothers on HBO or the History Channel, you know Shifty. His character appears in all 10 episodes, and Shifty himself is interviewed in several of them.

I met Shifty in the Philadelphia airport several years ago. I didn’t know who he was at the time. I just saw an elderly gentleman having trouble reading his ticket. I offered to help, assured him that he was at the right gate, and noticed the “Screaming Eagle”, the symbol of the 101st Airborne, on his hat.

Making conversation, I asked him if he’d been in the 101st Airborne or if his son was serving. He said quietly that he had been in the 101st. I thanked him for his service, then asked him when he served, and how many jumps he made.

Quietly and humbly, he said “Well, I guess I signed up in 1941 or so, and was in until sometime in 1945 . . . “ at which point my heart skipped.

At that point, again, very humbly, he said “I made the 5 training jumps at Toccoa, and then jumped into Normandy . . . . do you know where Normandy is?” At this point my heart stopped.

I told him yes, I know exactly where Normandy was, and I know what D-Day was. At that point he said “I also made a second jump into Holland , into Arnhem .” I was standing with a genuine war hero . . . . and then I realized that it was June, just after the anniversary of D-Day.

I asked Shifty if he was on his way back from France , and he said “Yes. And it’s real sad because these days so few of the guys are left, and those that are, lots of them can’t make the trip.” My heart was in my throat and I didn’t know what to say.

I helped Shifty get onto the plane and then realized he was back in Coach, while I was in First Class. I sent the flight attendant back to get him and said that I wanted to switch seats. When Shifty came forward, I got up out of the seat and told him I wanted him to have it, that I’d take his in coach.

He said “No, son, you enjoy that seat. Just knowing that there are still some who remember what we did and still care is enough to make an old man very happy.” His eyes were filling up as he said it. And mine are brimming up now as I write this.

Shifty died on June 17 after fighting cancer.

There was no parade.
No big event in Staples Center .
No wall to wall back to back 24x7 news coverage.
No weeping fans on television.
And that’s not right.
Let’s give Shifty his own Memorial Service, on-line, in our own quiet way. Please forward this email to everyone you know. Especially to the veterans.

Rest in peace, Shifty.

I like to imagine that the experience was similar to an archaeologist rediscovering how a recently excavated artifact was employed thousands of years ago. But I'm well aware that it must have been different for 13-year-old Scott Campbell, who co-edits his own news Web site. For one, teenage impatience must have stood in the place where I fantasize scientific curiosity should have been.

"My dad had told me it was the iPod of its day," Campbell wrote. "He had told me it was big, but I hadn't realized he meant that big. It was the size of a small book."

Sure enough, people on the street noticed the antique clinging from his belt with amusement and friends on his school bus were quick to come up with some witty remark.

Campbell went on to criticize the portable cassette player's size, appearance, functionality and the "hissy backtrack and odd warbly noises."

Even when he discovered the cassette had more music on the other side (it took him three days), Campbell was still disappointed it could only hold a small fraction of what an iPod can.

"Did my dad ... really ever think this was a credible piece of technology?"

A Victim of Senseless Violence

Who can resist a puppy?

Tragically, an adorable Labrador mix proved to be a temptation in the most twisted way. He inspired not love and affection, but the kind of brutality that gives caring donors like you nightmares.

Teenagers allegedly abducted the trusting little dog from his property, took him to an abandoned home and senselessly beat him. The case is pending, and they are charged with using a sledgehammer handle, a rock and a beer bottle to inflict as much pain as possible.

Miraculously, the puppy somehow survived -- even after suffering without medical treatment for 24 hours. He sustained skull fractures, numerous cuts, a broken leg and a terrible eye injury.

Unable to afford the puppy’s medical care, the owner finally surrendered him to a local animal shelter, where the puppy was renamed “Justice.”

A Just Outcome

Justice -- and the shelter where he had been taken -- still needed help. His ghastly injuries required medical care that went beyond what the shelter could afford on its shoestring budget.

That’s when American Humane stepped in. Thanks to donors like you, we provided vital support through our Second Chance® Fund to cover Justice’s medical expenses.

Although Justice’s eye was irreparably damaged, his spirit is as strong as ever. Amazingly, he did not lose his sweet temperament following the dreadful beating he took. He is now living with a loving family that recently adopted him.

Please give what you can to help other abused and neglected animals start the new lives they so justly deserve!

big ass bike

By lizardbird98

who is crazy enough to ride this bitch...

“The Gunbus 410 cubic inch V-Twin motorcycle is complete. The monster engine placed in a motorcycle frame of comparable size looked impossible and many who saw the photos were skeptical of the bike ever being finished.” w/ photos

The fuel injected, 45 degree 6728 cc / 410 cubic inch V-Twin runs through a 3 speed transmission with reverse and actually looks pretty good in its finished state compared to the initial photos, in fact, everything looks good. It puts out 523 foot pounds of torque. Seat height is 31.5 inches and overall length is 136 inches. It is a little heavy at 1433 pounds so high speed corner carving might be an issue and there aren’t any photos of the big bike on the road so I guess we’ll have to wait for the road test, that is if someone can actually road test this monster.

This is actually going to go into limited series production and a sidecar will be available as well which might help with balance when waiting at a light. I don’t even want to think about a driveway tipover. I think this is great! Now, where’s the

Penguins recall Satan from minors
By Sports Network
The Sports Network

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced on Friday that they have recalled forward Miroslav Satan from the minor leagues.

Satan played in 65 games with the Penguins this year, notching 17 goals and 19 assists, before being sent to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League. In 10 games with the AHL club, the 34-year-old recorded three goals and six assists.

Satan has played in parts of 13 seasons with Edmonton, Buffalo, the New York Islanders and Pittsburgh, posting 354 goals and 367 assists in 1,012 career games. He reached the 1,000 games played mark on February 4 of this season.

Selected in the fifth round of the 1993 draft by the Oilers, Satan had 41 points with the Islanders last season before signing with the Penguins as a free agent in July. He has scored at least 25 goals in nine of his NHL seasons.

Baseball Coach Loans Ferraris to Teenagers. What Could Possibly Go Wrong?
April 1, 2009
Here's an incredibly weird situation (and it's not an April Fools joke): A high school baseball coach loaned both of his Ferraris to 4 of his players, apparently with no supervision whatsoever. The teenagers were all juniors in high school and not surprisingly, managed to wreck BOTH Ferraris in a mall parking lot!!

Now here's where the story gets better: You would think the baseball coach would be outraged. Instead, he shows up at the scene, lights up a cigarette and calmly says "It's gonna take a lot of homeruns to cover this one up".

Is this the coolest baseball coach in the world? (or maybe the craziest). At this point, you're probably wondering how a high school baseball coach can afford 2 Ferraris. (He's apparently a retired neurosurgeon).

The Ferraris destroyed were a 1991 Ferrari Testarossa (some may remember this car from Miami Vice), and a 1995 Ferrari 348. The teenagers were driving around the mall and tried to pull into the same parking space. One t-boned the other. The accident happened in Oklahoma City, OK.

When a tow truck was called to the scene, the operator thought it was a joke when he was told not 1 but 2 Ferraris needed towing.

The baseball coach had apparently been allowing the players to drive his Ferraris all the time and still plans to let them drive after the cars are fixed. Perhaps he expects these players to be the next A-Rod and pay him back for the damages in the future.

We here at WreckedExotics are just scratching our heads. Special thanks to Ryan Free for snapping the photos and getting the scoop.
