Super Challenger Mr. Norm’s Takes the Challenger to a Whole New Level

Rewinding back to the ‘60s and ‘70s, Mopar enthusiasts were some of the most diehard gearheads out there, and they still are today, taking classic and contemporary muscle to the limit. Mr. Norm of Mr. Norm’s Garage debuted three fully customized Mr. Norm’s Dodge Challengers, two Super Challengers and one Super Cuda, at the 2008 SEMA show in Las Vegas.

Mr. Norm Kraus began selling used cars with his brother in 1948 at the corner of Grand and Spaulding streets in Chicago. In 1962, Mr. Norm started selling new Dodge brand cars and was intrigued by the many consumers who asked that their orders include the largest displacement V-8 available, a three-speed manual, an upgraded suspension, and larger brakes. Seeing a sales opportunity, in 1963, Mr. Norm opened a new showroom across the street and added high-performance Dodge products that the dealership’s repair facility fitted on new Dodge models. The rest is history, as Mr. Norm’s Grand Spaulding Dodge dealership became as well known as Don Yanko’s, who tuned and customized Chevy Camaros in the 1960s/70s.

Twenty-two-inch Rodtana forged aluminum wheels mounted on low profile rubber were bolted over SSBC upgraded brakes for the ultimate cornering and stopping package.

Our favorite of all three Mr. Norm’s Challengers is the stealthy, black and red painted Super Challenger. This incredible automobile is the result of a collaboration between Mr. Norm and Hulst Customs. With its Sherwin-Williams Planet Color Jet Black body and Blazing Red stripe punctuated with the legendary mark of Mr. Norm on the front fenders, this is one very stealthy and fast Challenger. The unique body styling also includes a Mr. Norm’s Super Challenger custom front spoiler, hood and side scoops, with body-side graphics featuring Mr. Norm’s Super Challenger logo. It is the hottest-looking Challenger we’ve seen.

The Kenne Bell polished supercharger and intercooler package makes rear tires a frequent purchase. A neck-snapping 900 HP is tunable for the track or the street.

Under the hood lies a 6.1-liter Hemi V-8 that gets the full Kenne Bell treatment by adding his supercharger and intercooler system, a Kenne Bell cold air intake system and an onboard computer upgrade using a Kenne Bell engine management system recalibration.

Once again, Mr. Norm’s chose a custom Corsa Performance, less-restrictive, dual cat-back exhaust system to quickly and more efficiently exit the hot gases from the engine and give this Super Challenger an explosive exhaust note that can be easily heard and welcomed by Mopar enthusiasts.

Harnessing the raw 900 HP of the Super Challenger is a lowered suspension from Hotchkis Performance. Utilizing the Hotchkis Performance custom coil-over gas-charged shocks, the ride height has been lowered 1 1/2 inches all around, giving this Super Challenger a lowered and menacing stance and astounding road holding ability and stability at very high speeds.

Increasing the stopping power of the Super Challenger is a Stainless Steel Brake Corporation (SSBC) V-8 eight-piston caliper brake upgrade kit. These eight-piston, high-performance calipers bite into 13-inch custom vented discs to quickly and safely slow this stealthy beast down from speed. What really set this Mr. Norm’s Super Challenger apart from the other two models are the brilliant Rodtana two-piece forged aluminum custom wheels.  These amazing custom wheels feature Mr. Norm’s signature, and measure 22 x 9 inches up front and 22 x 10 inches out back. They are wrapped with Pirelli Scorpion Zero P265/35ZR22 tires up front and 285/35ZR22 Assimetrico super-high-performance tires in the rear. These low-profile tires enhance traction and stability, while also giving the car an even more menacing look.

Inside is a Katzkin leather interior with Mr. Norm’s Super Challenger logo on the seat backs, a Hurst Performance shifter, Mr. Norm’s Super Challenger logo floor mats and trunk mat from Designer Mat, and a Mr. Norm’s Super Challenger serial number dash plaque. Outside noise is kept to a minimum with the addition of sound insulation by Quiet Ride Solutions. This model is proof positive that badass is back and beautiful.

Mr. Norm Krause and his long history of making Dodge coupes and sedans run faster and harder is back with a vengeance.
