Wild Ride – - This Ride Has Family Pride

Thursday, October 27th, 2011

A lot can happen in 20 years. Styles come and go, things change, but one constant has been Dan Wild and his ‘65 Chevelle. “My son, who is 19 now, learned how to work a floor jack at age one and a half,” said Wild. “This is the first car my daughter (almost 21 now) ever drove. I wanted her to be able to say that the first car she ever drove was her dad’s ’65 Chevelle.” (more…)

While they make excellent race cars, they are also easy on the eyes, and with the right suspension, wheel and tire, power train, and body and paint modifications, can make excellent street able muscle cars. Old School Dreams – Imagined in Study Hall Built 30 Years Later

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

As a high school kid in Iowa, Craig Hull had an active mind. All the cars he lusted after were built in his head, thanks to that active juvenile imagination. Sound familiar? Oh yeah. We all did the same thing. If you were a diehard gearhead, you were hooked at an early age. You’d see the latest crop of muscle cars on the dealer’s lot and imagine how they’d look with Cragar SS wheels, big tires and big power. (more…)

The W Returns – Building a Chevy 409-CID “W” engine

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

In 1961, Chevrolet introduced the new “W” engine, an enlarged and truly performance version of the 348-CID engine that had gone before. The 409 was the stuff of legends and was available in big bodied Chevys from 1961 through early 1965 when it was replaced by the first of the Mark IV big-blocks. Immortalized by the Beach Boys, who created the song “409” to sing its praises, the 409 was true to the hype of the car offered in a number of horsepower levels and with camshafts and carburetors appropriate for the ponies it generated.
