| Description: | This is a used transmission out of my 1998 VW Jetta GLX. It is the '02A' 5 speed transmission. It has maybe 30,000 miles. It's mechanically sound. THERE IS A CATCH, PLEASE READ!! This transmission is the 2nd one in this car. The first failed shortly after I bought the car (thank goodness for the extended warranty!!) I had the Ford Dealer where I bought the car do the work and they screwed it up. After a while the mounting bolts started backing out, but by now it was out of warranty and the jerks wouldn't cover there own work! One of the mounting tabs is broken. There is a bracket just above the drivers axle, this bracket has 3 bolts that screw into the transmission. One these bolts backed out and the transmission case broke with it. I would recommend using a good case from a bad tranny just so you could get inside and clean everything up as it's been sitting on the floor of my garage for a year. It would probably be cheaper to weld on the missing material and retap the hole. There is not much missing, it should be a minor repair. I pulled it 'cause I wanted a 6 speed, not because it was a bad tranny! Make me a reasonable offer!! It's located in Laramie, Wy. If you want it shipped it must be shipped via truck freight. I think it was about $150 for my 6 speed to ship from California. |
