a rough day on project cutlass

By steve420_247

today i was intending on installing the engine and tranny in my project cutlass. i started by draining the old oil becouse i was going to put a new oil pan gasket on before the install and i wanted to do a little inspecting becouse just prior to pulling it i noticed a white film build up on the dipstick. after dropping the pan i found the pick up had fallen out of the pump and was sitting in the pan.
*** i recomend that anyone who has the oil pan off secure the pick up in a manner better than GM did. i personally tacked it in place, though i'm told if a welder is not avalible epoxy will work. ***
now comes the problems. so i decide that i better check the top end for oil starvation. so off comes the heads. then i find some minor scoring, that i probably could have go away with, but that all the cross hatching from honeing was gone. it was like a mirror. well if your going to do something, might as well do it right. so i strip the block down and monday its off to the machine shop. is there such thing as a smooth build?

i there anything more fun than smoke'n a honda or an acura with a woody wagon? i love to laugh at ricers with gay soup can mufflers and skirt kits on a stock powertrain.

fun with buggs

By steve420_247

this is the story of when i brought my bug out. the third day i had her out wouldn't you know it but some one hit it in the parking lot. but don't give them any credit, they hit me while i was in the car so they didn't get away. so, i just went from driving a 1986 chevy woody wagon to a 1974 VW super bug and it was a transitional period at best. my wagon was power everything, windows, door locks, cruise control, you name it, but it used 25L / 100km. my bug was manual everything, but used 10L/ 100km. I am a student working one day a week, this was awesome but there were sacrefices. like when i was hit. they backed into the driver side door of my bug and they were in a pick-up. luckally it was just a ranger so it was not that scarry, but still in a bug there in like 2.5 " between you and the outside. and after a 5 mph crash i don't at all look forward to anything more. aside from that she is still an amazing car and has never let me down.

truck 28

By steve420_247

my old truck was amazing. it looked like ****, it guzzeled fuel, and was loud as hell. but I bought and had it on the road for $500. and other than a new brake line thats all she cost me for three years of beating the living **** out of it. 86 000 km later I sold her for $1400. Goods Times.
