Hill’s Hot Rods and JD Glassworks Take Custom Truck Building to a Whole New Level

Most dreams are fueled by passion and a willingness to commit to something all the way. Jason Hill, owner of Hill’s Hot Rods in Lubbock, Texas, has always been a gearhead and custom truck fanatic from the day he got that magic plastic license from the state of Texas and started wrenching on his first truck, an ’81 C-10 square body. That early Chevy box truck influence might help explain why Hill’s has so many trick 1973-87 GM products on deck, but this shop is not just a one trick pony. Having rolling works of art from HHR land on the covers and pages of Street Trucks over the past four years, their talents can be applied to any blank metal canvas, classic or contemporary.

Photos From the ST Archives

Over the last 10 years, many of the most iconic and still-talked-about custom trucks have found their way onto the covers and pages of Street Trucks. We started out this issue with the intention of picking the top 10 trucks from the past decade. Soon, we found ourselves overwhelmed with all of the insane, full-blown custom trucks across the issues. After much debating, arguing and a pile of blow-in cards, we wound up with the top 20 trucks, as well as a few honorable mentions and special awards. Whittling the batch down even further would not do justice to the history of the past 10 years of Street Trucks.

More and more, dually trucks are being used not only as tow pigs but insane show vehicles as well. The quest to stuff the largest wheels possible under the fenders has also been growing, and custom dually wheel companies have stepped up to meet customer demand.

Casinos, Beaches, Girls, and Trucks—What Could be Better?

If there were a recipe for a utopian car show, some of the ingredients would include tons of girls, great food, friends, casino gambling, and entertainment aside from the custom cars and trucks. SEMA in Las Vegas comes to mind as a show that combines all of those elements, but what if you threw the ocean and sandy beaches into the mix as well?
