There are certain time-honored traditions in the custom truck scene and West Coast Nationals, hosted by Bob Hase and the crew from Sunset, is one of them. Picture three fun-filled days of badass mini and full size trucks cruising through La Paz County Park, which is planted firmly on the banks of the Colorado River. A full throttle custom truck party descends every year on La Paz with thousands of truck guys and gals displaying their rides for top honors and a few door-dragging bragging rights.
This year West Coast rolled into Parker, Arizona, on Sept. 24-26. Club banners went up, beers were cracked, stereos were cranked, and the party was in full swing from the minute the gates opened Friday morning until Sunday afternoon when the last vehicle rolled out. Bob Hase and the crew from Sunset run a pretty buttoned up event, and they definitely had their work cut out Saturday morning when some of the finest customs on the scene rolled onto the green at La Paz to compete. Truly excellent, detailed mini and full size trucks and SUVs were displayed at this year’s West Coast Nationals, providing a blanket of eye candy and detail that would trip any set of eyeballs. Roulette from Mad House FX had jams spinning all weekend so attendees could cut loose on the dance floor, and at 5 p.m. on Saturday you could show off your truck’s moves with a truck limbo held by the main stage. All the old school traditions from this event, like the jungle juice mix–off, were brought back to life.
During the day participants kept cool in the Colorado River, while the nightlife brought about some great camp conversation and flat-on-the- ground cruising. Bob Hase and the crew from Sunset plan to do it all over again next year, so make sure to tattoo the dates on your forehead and don’t miss this must-attend event.
