1998 Ducati Monster 900 (We don't need no stinking nickname!)

Trophies: 4 Give a trophy Last updated Nov 2, 2009

About

I had researched and shopped for a Monster for weeks before finding this one. I had to drive almost a 1000 miles to pick it up in Kansas City. I test rode it and it was more than I was expecting! After finalizing the purchase, I hop on the bike (my friends were in the truck) and start riding towards a restaurant for lunch. I'm not more than 3 blocks from his house, and right in front of a Harley dealer, when I get pulled over for not having a liscence plate. It's 15 minutes before he confirms I just bought the bike, it was already insured and everything was legal. We talked with the Harley guys and found out bikes get pulled over fairly often in that area. We also check a few Harley's out and they get to check out a Ducati. We get back on the road and continue to the restaurant. I'm maybe 4 miles down the road when I get pulled over again for not having a plate. Another 15 minutes later he verifies the same info the last guy did and lets us go. By now we're starving, so we load the bike in the truck and eat. After lunch we head back to Lincoln, NE where we were staying for the night. In the morning I unload the bike 'cause I was going to ride it a part of the way home. I ride it 4 blocks from the hotel to IHOP and just as I pull into the parking lot I get pulled over again!! This time it was for no helmet, who knew Nebraska had a helmet law? I explain where I came from, where I was going and that my helmet was in the truck just ahead of me and how I didn't know about this law and the jerk writes me a ticket anyway! What's worse is afterwards he tries to complement my bike!?! I'm happy to say I haven't been pulled over since, well, at least not on the bike!!!

Specs

The bike has a 904 cc L-twin. I say L instead of V because one of the cylinders is vertical and the other is horizontal.
Rated at about 70 bhp, and 60 ft-lbs. before the mods.
It might have the same hp and torque after mods at 7200'
The bike weighs about 400 lbs.
6- speed transmission
30- 33 inch seat height, depending on rear shock adjustment
With my skinny 175 lb butt on it, it still has 8.2 lbs per h.p.!!

Factory Options

Credited with starting the naked sport bike/ street fighter scene, Ducati brought it first with a whole lot of attitude!!!
